  I don’t know much about podcasting, but surely you Googled “embed podcast” and found that podcast.com features “built-in players which you can embed anywhere on the web?” I’m probably missing something.

  And if that doesn’t work, try wildvoice.com. I found that site by searching Digg for “embed podcast.” I’ve found that if you’re looking for something cool, don’t search Google, search Digg.

  Wordpress has a lote plug-ins that allow you to stream any file and have people listen via flash. Do a search on “wordpress plug-ins”. I really like wp-plugins.net

  One more thing . . . switchpod.com. Podcast hosting. Free. file has to be no bigger than 250MB.

  Thanks Gary & Greg. Good hunting, so I checked them out.

  As near as I can tell, Podcast.com has the players but doesn’t allow you to upload and host. wildvoice allows the upload and, indeed the embed, but not the ability to allow others to embed your piece easily. (Again, as near as I can tell. You have to go pretty deep on some of these sites to get those kinds of instructions.)

  I’m looking for the audio equivalent of YouTube. Free, easy upload, hosting, sharing and the ability to share an embedded player.

  If this doesn’t exist, I say we all pitch in and start one…

  I’ve had a good run with http://www.libsyn.com, it’s not free but it’s damn cheap. Not sure about the embedded player, but do you want to embed one player which automatically changes to the current podcast? Or just a player which embeds the episode you specify? If it’s the latter, go with LibSyn… You can link to the files via http, meaning you’ll just need to do a Media Player embed on your post.

  We use a WP plugin called PodPress. It works great. I haven’t checked to see if it will work with the file remotely hosted, but it might.

  Here are you options:

  Post it on utube. Yes I know that it’s for video. Nobody likes talking heads. Add a few graphics related to your subject and it can pass for video… The graphics can be talking points to reinforce what you are saying at the time. Embed te utube player when you post.. and your done.

  Or we can host it on a a high bandwidth helix server for you. Email for details on how it won’t cost you a cent…. and that’s along the lines of building an audio player. We’ve already got one that can be customized.

  Replicate my Google search and you’ll find other sites, though the players I saw looked a little ugly.

  I thought about the GooTube option, but that’s not really podcasting. I’d like to start offering regular podcasts on LR - ones that people can download, get thru iTunes, share on their own sites or listen to on our page.

  It’s hard for me to believe this doesn’t exist! I think I smell a business model…

  There are podcasting plugins for Wordpress (PodPress I think it is called), and all a podcast consists of is a a simple MP3, something you can create easily create with QuickTime Pro on your mac. Only additional item you’ll need is quite a bit of bandwidth.

  I’ve already dug into all this some time ago for a couple of my customers and it doesn’t cost much to get into it (just $29.95 for the QuickTime Pro key - and if you have any real video editing packages on your machine, you probably got the pro version already)

  Glad you found the BBC experience enjoyable. I enjoyed your contribution, and though I’m among those who can’t be bothered to watch the video, I agree it adds to documentation, although, as noted by one BBC blog commentor, it’s wonderful food for conspiracists.
