McClatchy buys local citizen journalism sites
Cory Bergman January 2nd, 2007
We’re a little late on this, but better late than never. FresnoFamous and ModestoFamous, two local citizen journalism sites, have sold to McClatchy’s Fresno Bee and Modesto Bee. Both sites were started by 26-year-old Jarah Euston, and they feature blogs, photos and forum posts submitted by users. “Purchasing a strong franchise such as Fresno Famous gives The Bee another way in which to reach younger readers with information they seek,” said Valerie Bender, vice president of custom publications for The Fresno Bee. “Our intention is to keep the high standard of blogging and information that has led to the success of Fresno Famous and to, over time, continue to grow the content and opportunities for citizen journalism on the site.” (Via PaidContent)

chalk one up for the little guy (girl?)
it almost certainly was not a huge amount of $ that changed hands but to think a major media concern would partner with what appears to be a sole proprietor ought to give hope to many.
