premier broadcasters: NBC, Cox Broadcasting, Hearst-Argyle, The
McGraw Hill Companies, Post-Newsweek, Scripps Howard, and Capitol
Broadcasting Company.

With over 13 million monthly visitors, over 500 million monthly page
views, and the #1 TV station web site in 18 of the top 25 markets,
Internet Broadcasting is the nation’s largest online local news
publisher. The company is headquartered in Minneapolis with offices
in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Director of National Content- req #004-07

JOB SUMMARY:

The Director of National Content oversees the national news editors
and all national-level editorial content that is distributed across
the IB network of sites. This includes all news, weather, sports and
feature content, both original and syndicated, that IB provides to
its sites. This person also acts as the primary liaison between the
network sales team and the national staff, working to implement
content-focused plans to support sales and business development
initiatives. This is not a technical position, although familiarity
with basic Internet publishing technology is expected. Primarily,
this is a news management and content development position. The
Director of National Content reports directly IB’s vice president of
content and operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

· Manage national content staff.

Hire and/or supervise the hiring of national news, sports, and
feature (“channel”) editors. Approve staff schedules, arrange
training, manage personal time off/vacation time. Coach department
heads and mediate routine personnel issues. Administer annual
performance reviews; communicate performance goals and feedback on an
ongoing basis.

· Supervise national content.

Monitor the presentation and quality of national editorial content,
including national breaking news, routine feature content, major
planned events, and custom content for special initiatives.
Encourage editors to maximize the creative/interactive resources
available to them. Direct the development of special sections to be
the best they can be.

· Participate as a key member of IB’s content management team.

Participate in senior staff meetings with the content management
team. Work to make sure that national content offerings meet the
goals of IB partners and their sites.

· Liaison with other departments at IB’s headquarters.

Work closely with key staff in marketing, sales, executive, and other
departments to ensure National Content’s participation and
leadership in key company initiatives.

· Keep IB’s content offerings relevant.

Work to identify key content areas/types that will keep IB’s
national content offerings on the cutting edge of the industry
through development of new content or creation of strategic content
partnerships with outside organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
REQUIRED:

· At least 10 years of experience in journalism; at least 2 year in
online news or online-related field. TV newsroom experience is
preferred.

· Significant management experience.

· Strong familiarity with trends, economics and technologies
influencing the evolution of online news.

· Basic understanding of Internet publishing, Web hosting and
multimedia production.

· Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently and pleasantly with
people of varying backgrounds — from TV news directors to database
programmers.
