Tivo features coming to Comcast DVRs
Cory Bergman January 8th, 2007
For an added monthly fee, Comcast DVR subscribers will soon be able to download TiVo software so their DVRs behave more like TiVos. This was announced two years ago, and it’s finally hitting the market. Neither company revealed how much it will cost — or an exact launch date — but as a Comcast subscriber, I’m thinking it may be worth it. More TiVo-related announcements: TiVo viewers will be able to access RealNetwork’s Rhapsody service, and TiVo adds Music Choice to its lineup of broadband content.

Hallelujah and pass the mayo. Anything to get off the craptastic Motorola interface I’ve got now. How do I get on the beta test list??
I just hope the Moto cable boxes have the horsepower and stability to run TiVo software as smoothly as a real TiVo.

Too bad Cox is going to wait until Summer 08 to even begin the LIMITED trial of TiVO on their DVR boxes (aka. the worst DVR boxes known to man). How did Comcast get so far out in front of Cox on this one?

Damn! I have a COX DVR and it just randomly stops recording a show (i mean it no longer schedules the recordings). AND I can only search a week in advance, AND I can’t search by show (unless i know the day it’s on)
How do you get the free series 2 box? I see it for 69.99 on the tivo site…pls help! I hate the cox DVR!

OK, please enlighten me. We’ve had the Comcast HD boxes with the built-in DVR on two of our setsf or over a year now. We have been quite happy with their performance and in using them with the on-screen Guide to set up single and series recordings.
What additional / improved features will we see if we upgrade to TIVO software? We have no experience with the TIVO brand DVR….
Thanks

I currently have Comcast DVR and it is OK. But my Boyfriend has TIVO and I have to admit, the DVR interface is outstanding. It is so easy to use. Very simple and straightforward interface. I can’t wait until it is offered up here in rochester, NY.
