Britney, Perez top news and blog search terms
Steve Safran January 12th, 2007
ClickZ’s monthly hitwise top search terms list is out for December, 2006. The top search terms in the broadcast media categories are “cnn,” “msnbc” and “cnn.com.” But the top non-media-provider-name search is “Britney Spears.” In fact, Britney’s the only search term in the top 10 that isn’t the name of a media provider. The top blog search for a non-site-name was “Perez Hilton.”

It is kind of neat that in 2007, people are still sticking www addresses into search engines. Oh, and that “Britney Spears crotch” is somehow a personal site.

My father-in-law types full URLs into his firefox google homepage. It’s amazing. Important to keep in mind as we TV people drive people to the web.

Indeed, I was surprised when full-on URLs started showing up in search terms. People really use that search box in the upper right of some browsers as an address bar. Some even believe that’s the “right” way to navigate. (Who is to say what’s right or wrong?)

I was at his house once and started typing a web page directly in… he had no idea what I was doing. He’s only in his 50s– and uses lots of technology.
