NBC expanding ‘Today’ to four hours

The network is adding a 10 a.m. hour of the Today Show, but Meredith Vieira won’t appear on it all and Matt Lauer will make only the occasional cameo.

  1. I don’t care about an expanded Today Show either way, but it appears that it’s going to push out my favorite show Passions! I just don’t know how much the cancelation of Passions is going to affect me. I’ll probably never watch anything on NBC ever again if they go through with this.

  2. I hear you Douglas… I actually work as an assistant for the “Today” show. I am hoping for the “Today” show extension, so I’ll meet more people from around the world!! I’m in the photography dept. , but I have also been a long time fan of “Passions”, ever since its debut in 1999. I think “Passions” should remain on the schedule. It needs more time to grab audiences, like the other soaps that have been going on 4 decades. Cancel “Days…” Its been on since 1965…we had enough!!

But please reconsider watching NBC. It’s a wonderful network!!

  3. My sister turned me onto Passions and I thought it was a joke–it’s not. It’s quirky, fun and so different from the other boring soap operas (and even some NBC shows). We don’t need any more TODAY SHOW chatter. Two hours is more than enough. Who can we get to listen to us??? I’d like to know.

  4. I remember when then added the 9 oclock hour, and I have yet to be convinced there actually anything good from 9-10 on the show. So, I’m fairly certain the 10-11 hour will be even less engaging.

  5. I agree. The show gets boring after the second hour. They will eventually lose viewers and reconsider.

  6. I’m pretty sure that 3 hours of the today show is enough already… why four?! I highly doubt that anyone is going to watch all 4 hours (i suppose it’s for people who tune in late).

I like Days better than Passions, and I know that it sounds very white-trash of me to say that i’d prefer a soap over news… but half of the today show is useless banter anyhow. It’s totally cooking tips, movie star news, and a whole bunch of ridiculous Al Roker crap that I can’t stand…

I feel bad for the actors on Passions… it’s a funny soap and they deserve better treatment than this. I heard satellite tv is going to pick them up? Great… looks like I’ll be downloading the show now (since I just have cable).

  7. I have been watching Passions for four years and am so bummed out to learn nbc is dropping my favorite soap! We won’t switch to Direct TV just for one tv show . Is it really necessary to have FOUR hours of one show EVERYDAY?? Holy moses! I hope nbc suffers in ratings. It went downhill after Friends went off the air anyway.
