Advertising politics heat up over global warming

David Johnson January 19th, 2007

With my recent dabbling in ecomedia, I found this little item especially interesting and thought I would share it with our media buyers and marketers out there in LR Land: Advertising industry lobbyists are cautioning that global warming may pose a looming threat of a different color. Daniel Jaffe, EVP and chief Washington lobbyist of the ANA said he could envision products being branded as contributors to global warming or requirements to put disclosures on ads–or some ads facing restrictions altogether. “Debate over potential solutions could lead to calls for taxes or restrictions on marketing for a broad range of products, from light bulbs to automobiles to energy sources,” he said. Restrictive policies on green labeling and packaging are already going into place in Europe.

Ah, the truth comes out at last. Put a big ‘ol tax on those big bad SUV’s and include light bulbs too. It’s not about saving the globe, it’s all about more taxes!

    what’s wrong with taxes?

somehow the moron in the wh forgets that someone will have to pay the huge tab he is running up.

i have no problem with paying taxes provided they are used for the betterment of our country. i wish some greedy billionaires felt the same way.

So go ahead and cut down the trees, pour your concrete and blame the dinosaurs for global warming.
