Are you smarter than a fifth grader?

Cory Bergman January 22nd, 2007

That’s the name of an upcoming show on Fox where adults will be quizzed with questions from elementary school textbooks. “While most game shows measure how smart you are, this is a show that will measure how dumb you are,” said Peter Liguori, Fox entertainment president. The show is the product of mega-producer Mark Burnett, and Fox says it won in the bidding for the show from the other networks.

All “winners”, those who are NOT smarter than fifth graders, will be considered for TV network programming.

Joe, if you’re still out there: What day did you audition? Then did they have you send in pictures of yourself when you were in grade school? How soon after that did they tell you that you’re going to be on? Do you know if it’s been fully cast yet? Or are they still looking and deciding? When does it shoot? Thanks.

Went to a taping today. Pretty funny.

  • 21. Cookie  |  February 12th, 2007 at 6:46 am

So were the questions really hard? Did the contestants win or lose? Was it funny? Or humiliating?

  • 22. Cookie  |  February 12th, 2007 at 6:46 am

And by the way, who’s the host?

  • 23. Dixie  |  February 14th, 2007 at 5:54 pm

Saw it tape today. Fun show. Awesome set. Hosted by Jeff Foxworthy. Before the show, the told us this was the final day of taping and… so far in six days of taping nobody had won the million dollar grand prize. Some tough questions today so I can see why nobody’s taken home the big check yet. The contestant selects one of the kids to play alongside him. The contestant has to answer the questions but, if they’re not sure of the answer, they can use the kid for a “peek” a “copy” or a “save”. (Kind of like lifelines.) Questions vary in difficulty: 5th grade questions, 4th grade questions, 3rd grade questions, 2nd grade questions and 1st grade questions. You have to answer two of each level. Once you get to $25,000, that money is guaranteed to you. After that, on each question you have a choice of answering, or taking your winnings and saying goodbye. But if you answer incorrectly, you drop back to $25,000 and you’re done. If you don’t win the million dollars (even if you’re walking away with several hundred thousand), you still have to look in the camera when you’re done and say, “I’m not smarter than a fifth grader!” to the whole country. Yikes! Saw two men play today. The first guy won $25,000 and the second guy won $175,000. But heard someone say that at yesterday’s taping, four people in a row were eliminated on the very first question! The show will premiere on Fox Feb. 27 and 28 and will follow American Idol. If it gets good ratings, Fox will pick it up and they will shoot more episodes.

i think that some people aren’t really smerter than fifth graders be cause it is the most dificult in elementary

  • 25. Afraid to be sued...  |  February 16th, 2007 at 11:29 am

I’m afraid the producers will sue me if they think this is “damaging” to them, so I’ll remain anonymous. I tried out for this show, and was told about a week ahead of time to come in for a taping, that I had a good chance of being a contestant. They spent the next 7 days giving me questionaires, calling me back to go over them in detail, sending me mountains of contracts to sign, convincing me to have as many of my family members come to the taping as I could. I did everything as they asked, took the day off work, had my wife take the day off work, had my adult daughter get a babysitter for the day, and then they called me on my cell phone when I was within 1 mile of their studio to tell me that they had cut me, and no longer needed me. That’s it, no advance notice. You would think they could have at least let me know a little bit sooner, before me and my family took the time off work, and drove almost all the way down to the studio. It’s just typical “Hollywood” behavior. I’ve never come into contact with an industry comprised of so many self-centered, narcisistic, rude, and un-professional people in all my life.

  • 31. Afraid to be sued...  |  February 17th, 2007 at 9:57 am

It’s being produced by Mark Burnett Productions.
You can start by contacting their office and asking to be put in contact with one of the contestant coordinators for the show. Sometimes on new game-shows, like this one, the contestant coordinators will run ads looking for contestants on http://www.craigslist.org, that’s how I was interviewed/auditioned as a contestant. But now that this new show is “breaking,” they’ve got oodles and oodles of people who want to be on the show. Good luck. You’ll need it.

  • 51. Logic One..... and Imaginative  |  February 23rd, 2007 at 3:12 pm

I skipped 1 grade, am in the smartest group at school, I am the only 5th grader in Gifted, and I am taking a 6th grade science course. My teacher from 4th grade, Mrs. Wineland nominated me for the National Young Scholars Program. I am very smart, I get an A+ average, I also have read many other books that my peers haven’t.

    Hi,
I know I’m smarter than a fifth grader because I’m like the smartest student in my school.(not private by the way) I want to find out how to get on the show because I am a smart student. STRAIGHT-A student no joke. I love school. WHAT A SHOCKER. RIGHT? NOT REALLY.My school never wins anything because not many people know we exsist. I am a fifht grader. And let me just say my sister(17) doesn’t know what GROSS is but me (10) know i is 144. OI am in fifth grade and my school goes from 2nd grade to 6th grade. THAT’S IT NO MORE. I believe I can win a teacher. So please contact me. Preparing for tests here in NJ is very EASY. So the show would probably be a piece of BROWNIE OR CAKE.

  • 70. Jon  |  February 27th, 2007 at 5:47 am

Love how this show was stolen straight from Howard Stern. He has been playing this for years (when i say years I mean over 15 years). He matched up people against young kids and asked the adult questions from 2nd grade- 5th grade level. Good job producers, you’re really creative. Come up with something on your own next time.

  • 71. kayla  |  February 27th, 2007 at 5:52 am

Ok, you have a good memory retention…doesn’t mean you’re smart.
Being smart is called logic and reasoning.
A relative of mine has autism….so he’s smarter then me?
He can’t get a job but he can nearly recite every book he reads.
I’m still really looking forward to watching this program.

I am smarter than a graduate student of economics. The price elasticity of demand is defined as the percent change in quantity divided by the percent change in price. A coefficient greater than one pertains to an item with elastic demand; less than one is inelastic; equal to one is unitary elasticity; zero is perfectly inelastic; and infinate is perfectly elastic.

  • 101. bianca  |  February 27th, 2007 at 7:25 pm

  • 102. Gosh........these kids have so much ego....  |  February 27th, 2007 at 7:25 pm

Great way to pat yourselves saying your smarter than a fifth grader, I hope you all get on the show and LOSE. That way, you will know that you actually aren’t the smartest person in the world. I know many people who are smart……and they know how to spell. For the fifth-graders that think they can beat a teacher, go fry ice! I mean, these teachers have gone through college, they know what pronouns are! I mean really now…….how can you think that while you are in fifth grade you can beat a teacher? They have gone through many years of college and school. And you probably just make their grading easier…….all they have to do is give you an F because you don’t know how to spell……..that is actually a very big part of education.

  • 103. bianca  |  February 27th, 2007 at 7:25 pm

    should**

  • 104. Gosh........these kids have so much ego....  |  February 27th, 2007 at 7:26 pm

look what i found on the internet. I can say that i remembered this from my 2nd grade years. and i want to say that the host, Jeff Foxworthy, was wrong in saying that there was only one ship to set sail with the pilgrims.

In the meantime the Leiden Separatists, who had initiated the venture, sailed for Southampton on July 22, 1620, with 35 members of the congregation and their leaders William Bradford and William Brewster aboard the 60-ton Speedwell. Both the Speedwell and the Mayflower, carrying a total of about 120 passengers, sailed from Southampton on August 15, but they were twice forced back by dangerous leaks on the Speedwell. At the English port of Plymouth some of the Speedwell’s passengers were regrouped on the Mayflower, and on September 16, the historic voyage began.

thank you, but i think you should not lie about facts.

Okay, kids, how do you know if you’re smart? It doesn’t make sence, you say you are and then you end up being the person who doesn’t know answer. Sorry, my rant is getting out of control.

Jessi . . . you are here to tell people to learn how to spell show huh? How do you spell sense?

    Megan,

Nice research, but what you copied and pasted doesn’t actually tell that the Speedwell made the complete voyage. Were you able to find that? I watched the show, and it seems that the question was actually what ship brought Pilgrims to the American colonies? Not which ship set out on a voyage.

    Thanks,

Love how this show was stolen straight from Howard Stern. He has been playing this for years (when i say years I mean over 15 years). He matched up people against young kids and asked the adult questions from 2nd grade- 5th grade level. Good job producers, you’re really creative. Come up with something on your own next time.

Yeah Jon, but does Howard offer a million dollars????? LOL I think its great wherever the idea came from. Too bad Howard didn’t capitalize on it; futhermore Howard can not be watched and/or listened to by the entire family. He can’t keep it clean enough.

  • 124. Connie M  |  February 27th, 2007 at 8:29 pm

Hey folks, I think you are all losing sight to what this show is actually about. Is it about a kid being smarter than an adult??? Not exactly, but it is about what we as adults have forgotten since school. I am remembered on a daily basis of things that I learned as a child but because I haven’t used it in years, have forgotten.

Why is it so difficult for you folks to allow kids a bit of glory? I think it is great the kids are made a part of such an exciting show. Are you all afraid a kid might actually develop a sense of well-being, some self-esteem perhaps? Give me a break!!!!

    Honestly Connie,
I’m just ranting that they are using kids at this age for entertainment (are they getting compensated? or is their parents?) are the children going to assume (and their parents) that performing on tv now is better then school?
    …..?
My own 8 year old (#1 out of 3) corrects me a lot and she’s only in second grade, but that’s only because I’m distracted while I’m doing the dishes and laundry.
Like I said I will be watching and my daughter will be watching with me.
    peace

My apologies for the misspell. Thank you for responding. I am like many I guess, I started reading these replies and started flipping at some of the comments made. Believe me, I understand about the kids and the corrections. Sometimes I have to swallow my pride and say, “yes you are right, now get out of my face.” LOL

I wanted to reply to this separately as this is a good debate about the children. I think children and showbiz is dangerous or can be dangerous and it can harm a child if the child does not have a good foundation and good parents. I would much rather see children’s funds put into school funds and things of that nature. But, you know as well as I do, many kids have grown up on the screen and turned out great. Some haven’t. I just hope, for the kids sake, they do have the guidance and foundation they need to use this as a learning experience.

  • 130. Noman  |  February 27th, 2007 at 9:06 pm

    This is an old one.
3 men check into a hotel and rent 1 room. Cost for the room = 30$. Each man pays 10$
The next day, the manager says they overpaid.
    The room was only 25$
He tells the valet to return 5$ to the three men
The valet returns to the room and realizes that he can’t divide 5$ between 3 people.
So he pulls out three dollars and gives each man 1$ each and pockets the 2$.
    So each man paid 9$
    3*9=27
    27+2=29
    The Valet has only 2$
What happend to the 1$ Bill?

Kids, please be safe here- do not post your full name, the name of your hometown, your phone number, your school’s name, or your address. DO NOT give out ANY personal information on a public forum on the internet! It’s too easy for predators to find you.

    Be smart. Be safe.

Kenna, this post is very much meant for you. If you’re genuine, please consider editing your first post. I’m not sure what to make of your second- perhaps other concerned parents emailed you about this issue? Or maybe you just got a lot of pointless responses from people who don’t have anything better to do with their time.

Let this be a lesson to you- you put your email address out for the whole world to see, and you obviously don’t like the responses you’ve gotten so far. So think about it. How are you going to like it if some psycho shows up at your school looking for you?

    BE CAREFUL, PLEASE!!!!

  • 141. Tommy B  |  February 28th, 2007 at 7:55 am

I can’t believe there were a grand total of 5 (FIVE) questions last night. They better get it moving or this show is headed for the trash bin. The reason Jeopardy has lasted so long? Sixty questions every night..

  • 142. Rachel  |  February 28th, 2007 at 7:57 am

Kids, listen: you CAN’T be on this show. The five kids in the show are professional actors. They auditioned. They were cast. They all live in the Los Angeles area and have agents. For instance, the girl “Laura” has been recently seen on “The Sarah Silverman Program” on Comedy Central. These are professional children who are members of the Screen Actors Guild. Now, having said that… they are also fifth graders. Every child who works in Hollywood must attend school I’m sure these kids attend regular schools when they’re not working. But when they’re taping, California law says they must have a teacher on set and attend classes at their grade level for so many hours a day. So, are they real fifth graders? Absolutely? Are they just regular kids? Absolutely not.

  • 143. Kirk  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:00 am

You’re right. These kids are pros. They’re not contestants, they’re part of the show. They’re not competing for money. They’re getting paid to perform.

  • 144. Jamie  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:06 am

Does anyone know how to get on the show? I read somewhere that you can only be on the show if you live in CA. Are they done casting? or just waiting to see how the ratings are? Also I am an adult.

    Please let me know.
    Thanks, Jamie

Master Ninja Mike - there was no need to display your IQ. Everyone knew what it was when you submitted the cuss word.

  • 147. Blackwell  |  February 28th, 2007 at 10:46 am

Good Point, “Tommy B”. This was a slow start. I hope Foxworthy picks up the pace significantly. I just don’t know how much he can. The faster he goes, the more money FOX spends.

I wonder if certain individuals would be ‘overqualified’ for this program. Some people like elementary and middle school teachers work too closely to the material FOX uses for questions. As “Connie” mentioned in #134, many of us forget what we learned in elementary school. Others work with it on a daily basis. Do you think they’re disqualified?

  • 148. Blackwell  |  February 28th, 2007 at 10:48 am

Sorry, “Connie” in #124. Not the rudeness of #134.

Allow me to rephrase…How do adults become contestants??

  • 151. RM  |  February 28th, 2007 at 11:38 am

…Oh yes, and BTW, a HUGE Kudos to Fox for finally offering a show that the whole family can enjoy without having to “Cover ears and eyes” or having to keep a quick trigger finger on the remote!!!
    Thank you Mr. Foxworthy!!!

  • 152. Will  |  February 28th, 2007 at 12:06 pm

The problem I see with this show is the hour it is being shown. If they want to have a family show, then it should be aired at time kids can see it if they have school the next day. For most kids, 9:30 pm is too late for a planned family telecast.

  • 153. mike  |  February 28th, 2007 at 12:32 pm

what was the first question asked on the show last night?

  • 154. Randy  |  February 28th, 2007 at 1:10 pm

    The first question was…

In what month is Christopher Columbus Day observed.

The UCLA grad needed help with it. In fact, he needed help with every question.

Look you guys, this show is totally scripted, for the kids, it has nothing to do with being smart, and they don’t take smart adults for a reason. For all the kids asking how to be apart of the “class” stop saying that your the smartest one in your class, because it realy doesn’t matter.

  • 165. Danielle  |  February 28th, 2007 at 3:59 pm

  • 206. chad  |  February 28th, 2007 at 7:56 pm

wher is the show taken place and how do u get on the show if u are a 6 grader

  • 207. Matt  |  February 28th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

I know they wouldn’t let me on this show because so far, while watching the show, I’ve answered every question correctly withen three seconds. I would clean them out in 5 min. Everyone on this show is 40ish years old who have forgotten everything they have learned in school. This show goes to show that degrees don’t mean intelligence.

  • 208. chad  |  February 28th, 2007 at 7:57 pm

or how can my mom dad or brother get on the show

  • 209. Iris Grimwood  |  February 28th, 2007 at 7:59 pm

Great show! My family is enjoying it. Should be on earlier so that fifth grader can watch it. We need more programs like that. Congratulations!!!!!!!How can my son, 23, participate on your show?

  • 211. No Child Left Behind  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:00 pm

“If you don’t use it, you will lose it” is the key principle of the game. It’s not implying that adults ar stupid or even not as smart as a fifth grader. The elementary curriculum across the nation has changed tremendously since we were in school. Our fifth grade students are now doing algebraic formulas and using Encarta to do research papers with citations. You would be amazed what your children are responsible for knowing under ” No Child Left Behind”. There will be no child left behind… it’s the parents that are being left. :) LOL.

The answer to Norman’s question is there is no extra dollar missing.
    $30-5=25
    5-3=2
The valet has the last two dollars of the 5 dollar change from the hotel. Total, each man’s share of the room was only $8. 33 rounding. The valet actually kept the coin change from each man that totaled close to two dollars.

  • 212. Jasmine  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:07 pm

I am a fifth grader and my big brother wants to be in the show trust me he can kill us with the whole show he wil make a million dollars in 15 mins Trust me on this one!!!!!!

  • 213. smart blond  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:10 pm

It’s very sad to see when people like Lakisha (the player on Tue and Wed Feb 28) win $100 000 she absolutely doesn’t deserve it, even though her GPA WAS 3.3 in COMMUNITY COLLEGE!!!

  • 214. Mike  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:14 pm

They will not let you on this show unless you are stupid, period. If you’re talking about how easily your big brother or anyone else can win, that person will not appear on the show because he or she is most likely too smart. It really is too bad that they’re rewarding these imbeciles with more money than I’ve made in my life, and to boot, that girl’s gpa was higher than mine, which makes me ashamed that I didn’t push myself harder than I did, because if a moron could get a hundred grand and a 3.3, just imagine what a bright guy such as myself could get.

  • 215. Lauren  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:19 pm

Hmm, although i must say i’m a sixth grader, -woot, and most of the questions are easy, I find myself wondering what kind of first grader learns astronomy?? And no kid knows what “REM sleep” is, whether you’re a fifth grader, through 10th grader. I know the terms are coming from textbooks, but many of the terms in textbooks are not used frequently, and when they are you do not remember them! Personally, i think the questions should be from the fifth grade curriculum, not just “a term found in a textbook”. I should know too, my advanced problem solving class is coming up with next year’s fifth grader’s lesson plan. I think it is unfair, rather than having the same kids on the show week to week, they should switch out kids in order to how they sign up. The people in charge of the show are obviously choosing the brighest and nerdiest kids they can find. And THAT is not being “smarter than the average fifth grader”.

  • 216. KT  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:23 pm

Personally I don’t think people should be rewarded for not being smarter than a fifth grader. As adults, it is up to them to remember things and continue learning. As a high school senior, I can say that even though many of the questions on the show weren’t even taught by fifth grade when I was in elementary school, they are questions that anyone who has graduated high school and any type of college should be able to answer.

  • 217. Lauren  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:28 pm

    Btw-
To the little fifth graders who are openly bragging about their “gt” skills…
PLEASE, you guys can make an average of an A+ in elementary school easy, no doubt. I could too. No matter how much you brag, the fifth grade is easy, and even the most average students are able to make astounding grades. Now, once you get into middle school/ junior high, it’s a bit different, you see. I was making 100 in nearly every subject in the fifth grade. But the classes are much harder now, no joke. I was in gt last year, and i’m in gt math and la this year. Last year gt was the easiest thing ever so don’t go boasting about how “you’re so good in gt, and all the classes are sooo easy”. cause a couple more months, and the gt classes are going to get a lot harder. No matter who you are, the fifth grade is simply easy. gt is simply easy, and you’ll simply make straight a’s. please don’t brag, ‘preciate it.

  • 218. Robyn  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:29 pm

    To Jenny Greenly (comment #5):

You teach fifth grade but you don’t know the difference between THEN and THAN?

I’m glad you don’t teach my children.

  • 219. ciara  |  February 28th, 2007 at 8:32 pm

  • 222. kris  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:02 pm

let’s see i came here seeing where i could apply for the show. I’m kind of shock and alot of the comments made me laugh.

it seems as though the kids are disrespecting adults by saying they are smarter than their teachers. when hello teachers are the ones who teach you.

give the kids their glory is one thing because half of things on this show i was never taught.
kids do not know everything just as adults do not know everything.

  • 223. Emily  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:07 pm

    To Lauren,
we were all tought what REM stands for (rapid eye movement) in 5th grade. It depends if you go to a private or public school because they all have different textbooks.

  • 224. Anonymous  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:09 pm

I can’t belive that the lady didn’t get the question about the biggest border of the US. I mean…. thats pretty obvious.

  • 225. Anonymous  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:12 pm

I wonder if the kids are actors/actresses?

  • 226. Jjamiedoglvr  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:14 pm

Do you guys think that the show is scripted? Because I’m trying to figure out if the kids on the show know all the answers. I think they just get really smart kids though, and really stupid adults. who knows??

  • 227. ben  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:17 pm

yeah I agree with ben, hasn’t she ever seen a map?

  • 232. Anonymous  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:35 pm

    The comment in number 155,
there was no hannah on the show, there was an alana but not a hannah. So it’s just some random person wanting attention. But I shouldn’t say that because its not very nice so… just forget I said anything.

  • 242. This is copied from somebody else but it makes sense.....  |  February 28th, 2007 at 9:53 pm

Good luck. You’ll need it

  • 243. Anonymous  |  February 28th, 2007 at 10:51 pm

The question about the Dewey Decimal system was phrased as “True or False, Fiction books are not assigned numbers in the Dewey Decimal system.”

To the best of my knowledge, the Dewey Decimal system is used to classify books of non-fiction only. Fiction books are arranged according to category and then alphabetically according to the author’s last name.

So the answer to this question should have been TRUE. Fiction books are NOT assigned numbers in the Dewey Decimal system. All of the students and the contestant answered FALSE. She should not have been credited with the correct answer.

    Am I mistaken?

  • 244. ERIC  |  February 28th, 2007 at 11:09 pm

i would like to try out.
    when were what time?

i really want to do it because i love the show and i Failed 6 classes out of 7 in 10th grade and the only class i passed was tennis.
now i want to see if im really smarter than a 5th grader

  • 245. robert  |  February 28th, 2007 at 11:31 pm

The Dewey Decimal System is set up to have fiction listed under number 813. This is part of the literature category. See Wikipedia for more detail.

PS I missed that one too.

  • 246. Help America  |  February 28th, 2007 at 11:42 pm

    Then/ than.

  • 247. Sean  |  March 1st, 2007 at 1:52 am

I wouldnt mind a free million dollars… how do you get on the show?

  • 248. smarty  |  March 1st, 2007 at 5:53 am

this is retarded. Plain and simple. If this show is actually real (as in people were really chosen to be on the show and answer to their best potential), they wold never pick anyone of even mediocre intellect. I feel sorry for those who have been chosen to be on the show, as that means a professional has decided you are stupid. Anyway, the show is mostly commercials, and Jef Foxworthy can only manage to ask 4-6 questions in a 30 minute show. He is clearly not funny anyway, half the actual show is the children feigning laughter at Jeff’s pitiful jokes. The children are not as smart as they claim to be, I can tell from their grammer.

Another thing is that it is not fair to say it got the best ratings since a show from 1998, as everyone had just gotten through watching American Idol, and therefore watched it instead of getting up or watching something else. Just sad really.

  • 249. Carl  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:26 am

What was the exact question about the books being arranged by the Dewey Decimal System ? I must hve misread it when I watched the show or they got it wrong !!! the question was on the Feb. 28th show

  • 250. pat  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:45 am

i agree with comment 248, the only reason they put the show after american idol was to boost the ratings, after actually watching the show, im sure the ratings will gradually shrink to less then half the size of the first episode. you really have to be a dumbass to be challenged by these questions and enjoy this show. either that or you enjoy half educated adults making fools of themselves. i think theyre gonna need more difficult questions then what do you get mixing yellow and red, to target the average american adult.

  • 251. brittany  |  March 1st, 2007 at 9:46 am

Mr.Foxworthy it is a mistak of not having me on the show! So email me, because Im a fifth grader. So agian e-mail me.

  • 252. Caleigh  |  March 1st, 2007 at 9:56 am

Emily that was really mean what you said to Brittany. I meen maybe people should stop asking but, still you don’t say that so everybody can read it!

  • 253. luvsscience44  |  March 1st, 2007 at 10:41 am

Does a smart person have any chance of being on this show? I want to know. I think I would win a lot of money. How do I audition.

  • 254. Chris  |  March 1st, 2007 at 10:42 am

Yes all works of fiction are assigned to the 813’s but you would be hard pressed to find a public or school library that have all of their works of fiction assigned numbers and shelved in that manner. Because of the huge volume of books that fall into this catagory most libraries shelve them alphabetically by author and then broken down under their genre. A very misleading question and I found it hard to believe that the panel of fifth graders knew this!!!

  • 255. daw  |  March 1st, 2007 at 10:58 am

I think that they are looking for stupit adults from what i have seen on the show so far. The kids are smart. The lady that was on the show feb.28 was sad. and yet, she walked away with $100.000. She only knew 1 or 2 answers on her own. I would hide in shame if i did not know the answers she had to give.

  • 256. TK  |  March 1st, 2007 at 12:49 pm

I know that I’m not smarter than a 5th grader. I can’t remember who my teacher was??? My boyfriend wants to audition for this show. Can someone please tell me how to get him an audition & where? We’re getting married soon and this will be a wonderful gift for him. Thanks!

  • 257. Sarah  |  March 1st, 2007 at 1:09 pm

Yeahhh… i’m sure theres no way an actually smart person could get on this show, because it just wouldn’t be as entertaining. I wish i could audition to get on there. Its like free money…

And the “average” 5th-graders are actually child actors, who are given a workbook of questions and answers prior to the show’s taping. They attend school on set, not in a regular elementary school, and they don’t just rely on their memories to get the answers right.

  • 258. madison mottice  |  March 1st, 2007 at 2:13 pm

how do i get on the show ? i’m way smarter than alot of kids in my class and i’m in the advanced class.

  • 259. Anonymous  |  March 1st, 2007 at 3:07 pm

Hi you guys, if you want to be on the show you have to find out when and where their having auditions, which might be on craigslist.com and then you have to go into casting, but they have plenty people auditioning beacuse the show is new, but anyway goodluck!

  • 260. hi everybody!  |  March 1st, 2007 at 3:08 pm

I don’t think the kids are actors, they just are really smart 5th graders.

  • 261. DD  |  March 1st, 2007 at 3:18 pm

I think that that the dewy decimal question was wrong. Fictoin books are arranged by the first 3 letters of the authors name.

    But, who really knows?

have just celebrated our eighth year together. I am writing
because I truely want to know how to get him (Morris) on
the show. Not , because Ifeel he would make a great
contestant, I know that he would.
He is so smart, (da) that he frequently drives me up the wall.
He has the ultimate personality, (which is why I fell in
love with him) but more than that he really is that smart
(show-off). I would love more then anything to see him
brought back to reality. Proving that with age we don’t
alway’s remember as much as we like to brag about.
We finally disscussed marriage after eight years. If he
could have an opportunity to be a contestant on this
show, maybe he could win and use his winnings to
    plan our dream wedding.
But, remember he is so sure of himself, he can’t lose.
Give him a chance. Put his know it all self on the spot.
    Thank you
    sooo! much!

  • 290. Janice Turner (husband-Jason Turner)  |  March 1st, 2007 at 7:56 pm

My husband and I have been watching the show and I have to say what is up with these people. My husband happened to get every answer right and the whole time we were saying, “are these people dumb or what.” My husband happened to be in the army and got his associates in college and is now going for his bachelor in physics/chemistry… Gosh I would love to see my husband get on that show because I would love to see someone that can get them right without having to cheat or anything… Right now we live in Fort Campbell, KY but who knows maybe one day when we live closer to where all these shows are being made, I can get my husband to try out for one of these shows.

    hi whatsup i love r u smarted than a 5th grader

  • 301. entertained, but sad!  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:21 pm

I am 100% positive that I am smarter than a little 10 year old. I am in 8th grade and take two advanced classed at my school. One is at my high school. I am a straight a student and remember almost everything I learn. This show is fun to watch, but the people on it are stupid! I am sorry, but if you don’t know grade school questions then how the heck did you get through college? More than that, there was a question on it that was “how many sides does a trapezoid have?” That girl seemed really nice, but I mean come on! A TRAPEZOID HAS 4 SIDES! It is also the shape of some bridges, though triangles are the sturdiest shape! I mean it is a quadrilateral for Christ sake! Let me make this a tad bit easier for you- a quadrilateral is a polygon with four sides! Oh and a polygon is a term used to describe triangles, TRAPEZOIDS, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons. If you don’t know many of those shapes listed I really do hope that you recognize the word PENTAGON! Does it remind you of any building, one that may have gotten hit, in lets say 2001? It should! Did you know that it’s named after the shape of it? Who’d image that? Oh and by the way, my grammar is totally correct in here. Something not most of the posted bulletins can say! I more thing, I saw a preview for someone who couldn’t answer what a PRONOUN IS! Just curious, you do know what a noun is right? A pronoun, just for the record, would be words like he, she and so forth. Hopefully by reading this you are now a little smarter than you were before, which still won’t be saying much, but at least you have some knowledge in that empty head of yours! And lastly anyone who thinks this show is anywhere near as amazing as American Idol is… how to say this nicely… GAY! I am not saying that this is an unentertaining show. What I am saying is that all it proves is how DUMB we really are! The fifth grader who thinks 4+5 is either 45 or 54 really should have failed KINDERGARDEN, because kindergarten was when I memorized my TIME TABLES! Which on the show grown-ups don’t even know those anymore!

P.S. the fifth graders though are cute! Unlike the adults, they are actually smart! At least someone is!

  • 302. margaux mccartney  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:21 pm

how do you get on the show i mean it’s awsome my daughters teacher makes them watch it.

  • 303. entertained, but sad!  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:24 pm

Oh I didn’t mention that the one at my highschool isn’t included as the three at my school. I assumed that you’d get the difference, but know think wiser of the matter.

P.S. I don’t think I know everything either, I just happen to my my shapes and (as most people should) that Canada is most defiantly bigger than mexico on the American border! (again, not knocking that girl she did seem sweet)

  • 304. margaux mccartney  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:28 pm

I WILL WIN IF YOU JUST PUT ME ON THIS SHOW BUT HOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!

    HOUSE RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    4 reasons House is better!
    1) House is smart
    2) The people around him are smart
    3) When you watch it, it makes you feel smarter and you gain knowlege
    4) The plots taking an acual brain to figure out!

    GOOOOOO HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 307. Man  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:34 pm

So go to Church little boy or girl. Also I think this show is awsome too. So you ain’t the ownly one who think that so bye.

  • 308. entertained, but sad!  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:35 pm

AMERICAN IDOL IS ALSO AMZING! AND THEN NEXT TUESDAY AFTER IT I HAVE HOUSE!!!! YAY!!! I CAN FINALLY SEE IT AGAIN. MY BRAIN IS STARTING TO FEEL LIGHT AFTER THREE DAYS OF “ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER?”

  • 309. Someone.  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:39 pm

OKay Get a clue! Kids, you can’t be on the show. These kids are payed Actors/Actreses. Laura Marano is an actress. She is the sister of Vanessa Marano, who plays ‘April’ on the CW show ‘Gilmore Girls’. They have agents who find them these gigs, and they are payed for them. I am sure they are smart, and I don’t know if they know the problems ahead of time, but they are actors, so I am sure they have tutors, and stuff. Plus, I doubt they will be. And stop giving out personal information. It isn’t good. Be safe!

    Later,

  • 310. Pig  |  March 1st, 2007 at 8:41 pm
