MBA blogging from inside the Scooter Libby trial
Steve Safran January 24th, 2007
For the first time, bloggers are reporting from a major court trial thanks to the efforts of Robert Cox, the founder of the Media Bloggers Association. (Disclosure: I am on the board.) Bob has spent much of the past year working within the system to get accreditation for bloggers at major news events. The Scooter Libby trial is the first big test. The MBA has set up ScooterLibbyTrial.com to aggregate its coverage. The MBA is partnering with the Associated Press to distribute its reports. Here’s a CNN report on the bloggers at the trial:

Pretty good report but I noticed the sneering at the end of the piece about bloggers. What I was most amused by was the fact that they claim bloggers are biased unlike “proper” journalists.

First major trial? I think not!
When I was at KFOR in Oklahoma City we covered a murder trial where the suspect had recently been featured on America’s Most Wanted by blogging from the courtroom using a cell phone connection and a laptop. LR even did a piece on us. That was the first time anyone had covered a trial in that manner.
That seems pretty major to me, but if you aren’t convinced of that, the newspaper in Norfolk, Va. covered the sniper trial a few months later in the same manner.
