PRESS RELEASE — Oxygen is kicking off 2007 with major online initiatives aimed at creating a well-rounded, robust media outlet for women under the Oxygen brand umbrella. The network will launch its first social network, Oomph.net, an online destination for women to connect through a variety of networking platforms.
Oxygen will also launch its first broadband channel, SheDidWhat.tv, in January 2007, which will include ad-supported programming content, web exclusives and its first broadband original series, Our Bodies, Myself. Oxygen, which was launched in 2000, was originally created as an integrated media brand that combined a variety of websites as well as the popular cable channel.
Oomph.net is Oxygen’s first social network. It is a destination for women to unite online and connect through shared interests. Oomph users can find people with similar interests through various personality tests that can link people together who share the same personality types. The social networking site will also invite women to join in “passion groups,” which are places for users to connect with like-minded people.
Passion groups, such as pop culture, sex, careers, art, culture and music, help create an outlet for people to network, bond and further connect. Each passion group will be lead by an expert in that field where they will create blogs and vlogs to interact with Oomph.net users and guide the networking experience. Users can also nominate themselves to be experts and create their own passion groups.
“We created Oomph.net to be a place for emotional support for people who don’t need it. It’s designed for women who are strong, independent and have something to say — which is exactly what the Oxygen brand is all about,” said Gerry Laybourne, Chairman & CEO of Oxygen. “Oomph.net is programmed like a media outlet, it’s not a flat landscape; it’s a very active online community that connects women on multiple levels and allows them to share in a well- rounded networking experience.”
SheDidWhat.tv is the first broadband channel of any women’s cable network. SheDidWhat.tv will provide on-demand access to Oxygen’s programming, offering clips and full episodes of the networks original series and movies, as well as online exclusive “never-before-seen” web content. The upcoming broadband series Our Bodies, Myself, a comedy series about womanhood in America hosted by comedian Lauren Weidman, will be the first series that will air exclusively on the broadband channel.

all well and good, but…
oomph.net? 2oomph(dot)net could be a world wide web channel for jeff gordon, but oomph does nothing.
and what about dotCOM? naturally 80% of new users will try that first.
same goes for shedidwhat; some poet who owns the dotCOM shedidwhat will be seeing a little extra traffic i’d say.
one more thing about the social aspect of oomph; something tells me a few guys will be taking on a female persona in order to talk sex with a woman. i’ll let you know how it goes!

As a stay at home dad, I wish sites like this weren’t so woman-centric. Some dudes just want to talk parenting, regardless of sexual orientation/specification.

Curt is right. It’s an untapped demographic. I gotta ask though, Curt… how did you get so lucky?
