Assignment Desk
Position Summary: Investigate facts and information to support MVS program content development using various sources including but not limited to reference materials, the web, newswires, emails and press releases. Stay in contact with key sources and track program assignments from conception to execution by assigning Reporters and Photographers to gather information.
Minimum Qualifications
All qualifications must be met, to be considered.
Education: Four year degree in related field or equivalent experience.
Experience: Minimum of three years Assignment Editor experience in television news or comparable broadcast experience.
Specific Knowledge: Knowledge of News computer system and Internet navigation.
Skills and abilities: Good understanding of television news operations and fundamental knowledge of television production techniques. Must have strong verbal and written skills in outlining assignments and direction of stories. Able to organize workflow and prioritize constantly changing coverage. Able to make decisions quickly and accurately. Advanced knowledge of computer and internet research. Familiarity with a wide range of resources including public records, sources, and equipment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Superior organizational skills as they relate to tracking tips, follow-ups, contacts, and story files. Ability to work cooperatively with diverse groups of individuals and maintain a professional demeanor during stressful situations. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure of tight deadlines and last minute changes. Be inquisitive and self-directed gathering news in a fast-paced and competitive environment.
