Gates: Internet will revolutionize TV in 5 years
Cory Bergman January 28th, 2007
Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, speaking at the World Economic Forum:
“I’m stunned how people aren’t seeing that with TV, in five years from now, people will laugh at what we’ve had…. Certain things like elections or the Olympics really point out how TV is terrible. You have to wait for the guy to talk about the thing you care about or you miss the event and want to go back and see it…. Internet presentation of these things is vastly superior.”
With IPTV coming, he’s right on the mark, folks.

i just read this over at thehuffingtonchannel where i left a comment.
i liked the basher’s comment on how “poor quality” the feed via the net is and will always be compared to traditional tv. is this the route traditional tv people will use going forward?
if so, one might recall a post by terry heaton which mentioned a software app that monitored incoming video and “re-pixalated” it by analyzing frames before and after the faulty ones.
btw- my comment over there simply called into question mr. gates’ notion that this might take “5 years”.
i’d say the 2008 election year $ bonaza is in play

I live in Silicon Valley. Mr. Gates, and others are famous four “…in the next five years”. They never seem to come to fruition. The joke is that IPTV, or any other prediction, is in the future and always will be.

if you go to http://www.myspace.com/fox and watch some of there streaming “hidef” stuff is great quality and all you need is a dsl connection to not have to stop and buffer during an ep. so i agree but i think it will be sooner then 5 years.
