Do you have a way with explaining things to people in simple terms? Are you comfortable making and starring in short videos? If so, this may be the opportunity for you.
About.com, a top 12 website with over 33 million unique users per month, providing in-depth coverage of more than 500 subject areas, is seeking Video Experts to create 2-4- minute How-To videos in any one of 7 subjects: Garden, Home (Repair, Housekeeping, Design), Pets, Food, Computing/Gadgets, Parenting, Style. We at About.com aim to provide “Practical Solutions to Everyday Problems” and the videos should reflect that goal. Videos should explain or express their topic as simply and clearly as possible, appealing to a broad audience and tending toward evergreen.
As an Expert, you will have a great deal of freedom. This is the video-making process we envision:
You/we suggest ideas for How-To videos in your area of expertise. An About.com contact will approve the idea and description. You will:
Plan, outline, and write the script for the video.
Film the video or assemble a multimedia slide presentation with audio narration
Edit the video so that it’s clear, informative, and entertaining
Make sure the video follows the About.com video technical
Submit the video for approval, make small edits if necessary
Upon About.com final approval, you will receive your competitive, flat, per-video fee.
We’d like you to produce videos at your own pace and be very comfortable and familiar with your chosen video-making tools and editing software. A strong video personality will make all the difference in the effectiveness of your videos.
Being a Video Expert is part-time, non-exclusive work. To apply, please submit a sample video along with a resume to jluterman@about.com.
