PURPOSE: Update and maintain local website content for News 14
Carolina. Involves the execution of journalistically sound and
creative editorial tasks for the delivery of content on constantly
updated local news websites in Charlotte, Triad and Raleigh markets.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Update and maintain News 14 Carolina website,
http://www.news14.com . Rewrite and adapt broadcast content for
Internet publication, including original headlines. Develop and
create unique content and links which complement and enhance
broadcast content. Post coordinating graphics and video to news
stories.
• Answer phones and input information during inclement weather.
• Write statewide Business Update for on-air every Friday.
• Manage High School Football schedules and scores every fall.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING: Editorial decisions on the website.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES : Strong knowledge of journalism,
Internet and online services. Writing and editing skills essential.
Must know how to write in AP Style. May be asked to show web
portfolio and/or news writing samples. Must have the ability to
research the Internet. Candidate must have command of the English
language, spelling and grammar.
REQUIRED EDUCATION : Applicant must have a four-year college degree
in English, Communications/Journalism or related field.
REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE : Minimum one year producing content for a
news or college news website.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES: Writing and editing skills in
AP Style. Strong knowledge of the Internet.
ESSENTIAL MENTAL FUNCTIONS : Ability to work collaboratively and
communicate effectively with editorial, technical, creative and
administrative personnel across News 14 Carolina network. Working
knowledge of HTML applications, desktop graphics and video packages.
Must be able to work on multiple tasks simultaneously and in a
breaking news and/or deadline-driven environment. Organizational
skills essential to succeed.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS : May sit for long periods of time doing
computer entry, communicating on the telephone and in writing with
customers, vendors, and other service users. Work schedule will
require evenings and weekends.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS: Tuesday - Friday, 2 pm - 11 pm. Saturdays 9
am - 6 pm. Will work extra hours during inclement weather, breaking
news and high school football season.
SPECIAL MATERIALS/EQUIPMENT USED : Computer, printer, fax, copier,
up-to-date computer programs.
