Only about HALF of those HDTVs are actually hooked up correctly according to b-cast engineering experts!

  • 2. Allen  |  February 4th, 2007 at 7:40 am

Yes, all of you who don’t have work today (like me) enjoy the festivities. Must be nice.

  • 3. Brian  |  February 4th, 2007 at 8:09 am

And us Canadians will miss most of the good commercials, getting stuck with some lame Pizza Pizza and Canadian Tire ads. Ugh!

  • 4. thedetroitchannel  |  February 4th, 2007 at 8:18 am

i just hope it’s a nail biter till the end…

shades of elway leaping into the end zone!

  • 5. thekeywestchannel  |  February 4th, 2007 at 10:28 am

oh, and while you are watching all the pre-game/ game/post-game hype when seemingly every other sentence contains a dot-com address to visit, you “traditional” media-types can take note of ALL the new media companies that are looking for help in the lr “jobs section”.

  • 6. Steve Safran  |  February 4th, 2007 at 10:30 am

Brian: No complaining from Canucks. During the Olympics, you guys actually get to watch the games instead of the endless weepy pieces NBC produces about the athletes - all of whom are required to have at least one dying relative or have overcome a near-fatal disease.

  • 7. invitedmedia  |  February 4th, 2007 at 10:33 am

did you know that “canucks” were the ones credited with discovering “doggie-style”???

lore has it that the wife also wanted to watch the game.

  • 8. Don  |  February 4th, 2007 at 11:32 am

Maybe the game will feature a Hook & Ladder, or Statue of Liberty or… oh wait. No… it won’t be that exciting.

  • 9. Cory  |  February 4th, 2007 at 2:12 pm

It’s day’s like these I want pure, over-the-air HD instead of Comcast-delivered HD, which is pixelating on quick camera movements.

But the non-TV people here watching the game with us don’t seem to notice.

  • 10. Safran  |  February 4th, 2007 at 3:07 pm

They play a football game during the Super Bowl? I totally missed that.

  • 11. Uncle Rupert  |  February 4th, 2007 at 3:31 pm

Pizza Hut billboards strategically placed for CBS pregame. Seen over the shoulders on two different shots. Did they sponsor it? Had the sound turned down.

Superbowl MVP can be voted on through text message and Web site.

Will the blimp fly overhead. Anyone ever see the movie in which the blimp is hijacked and crashes into the Orange Bowl? Game scenes from Pittsburgh and Dallas from Super Bowl 10 (the heck with those Roman Numerals).

  • 12. Cory  |  February 4th, 2007 at 4:32 pm

Very cool graphics on the player introductions.

  • 13. Joe  |  February 4th, 2007 at 4:40 pm

    Best ad so far:

    Doritos.

And it was created by Dale Backus as part of a Yahoo/Doritos contest.

  • 14. Barney Lerten  |  February 4th, 2007 at 4:53 pm

So far, I’d give A grades to the Blockbuster mouse ad, the Toyota Tundra speed-brakes!!!, the Fed Ex “moon office” and the Bud Light “wedding auctioneer.” A solid B to the Sierra Mist “beard comb-over” (eww!) and their karate class counterpart.

And an A grade to the wet and wild, record-breaking first quarter to the game! Holy moly!

  • 15. Jason  |  February 4th, 2007 at 4:58 pm

I liked the Blockbuster mouse ad too… although it wasn’t in HD … Loses a letter grade.

CBS promos this year are in HD… Nice touch.

One other observation … Funny Gloria Estefan welcomed everyone to “Sunny South Florida” … she must not have got the memo - it’s raining.

  • 16. Jason  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:00 pm

    Lettermen and Oprah …. PRICELESS!

  • 17. Barney Lerten  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:03 pm

Okay, the Snicker’s “man kiss/chest hair ripout” gets an F-plus. The Chevy singers a B-minus, the Bud Light “No Speak English” a C and … well, Letterman and Oprah, I too give it an A;-) (Since when do promos outshine the ads? Rarely…)

  • 18. Raymond  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:03 pm

Ads: so far I like the Doritos ad, the Cevy ad, the Letterman promo and the Bud LIght Language Class spot.

I do freelance camera work for TV sports so I kind of feel for the camera ops in the weather they’re having.
But they’re the best and they’re geting paid well too. Maybe it will stop raining.

By the way, does anyone know how many cameras they have for the broadcast this year?

  • 19. Jason  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:09 pm

According to Broadcast & Cable … CBS has 47 HD cameras …

  • 20. Garry & Suzanne  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:13 pm

I’m very disappointed in the Snicker’s advertisement. It was very offensive. Don’t you guys understand that you are promoting something that God has specifically warned us against? Yes, we are living in a day and age of being politically correct but I’ve about had it with the promotion of the homosexual lifestyle even when it’s done in a comedy setting. You will all be accountable to God for leading someone astray. My prayer is that you will take a minute and read God’s word to help with your lack of knowledge! Bottom line is, IT’S A SIN! A BIG SIN!!

  • 21. Raymond  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:20 pm

I though it was more a tip to never eat a Snickers bar like that near a mechanic.

But I agree with Mr. Lerten, it gets an F-plus .

  • 22. Doug  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:25 pm

Funny, I thought they were selling a candy bar.

  • 23. Safran  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:29 pm

I am also offended by Snickers. For shame. God warned us against promoting the fatty food lifestyle. The sinners will pay - by eating cottage cheese.

  • 24. Barney Lerten  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:33 pm

Funny, visiting sites like Superadfreak, I’m seeing criticism of the funny Blockbuster ad, one even talks about “maltreatment” of the mouse - it’s a cartoon! Uh, Tom and Jerry? Sheesh. Beside the religious-gay aspect of the Snickers ad, it just plain wasn’t funny. Just now, the Chevy full of gals accosted by stripping men washing their car… sheesh. C-minus. The CareerBuilder one was fun, with nice touches (bored security gard, “Sign out, please.”)

  • 25. Cory  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:40 pm

The Blockbuster mouse ad got the biggest laugh from the women in the room.

And the ad most likely to be hated by the unions: the GM suicidal robot spot. Strange.

  • 26. Safran  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:59 pm

Cory: I was thinking along the same lines. It was a little too on the mark to have a GM making suicide references.

  • 27. Eric  |  February 4th, 2007 at 5:59 pm

I thought the GM robot ad was pretty damn good, IMHO

  • 28. thedetroitchannel  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:06 pm

it’s halftime and i’m left longing for the days of a sock puppet.

  • 29. Uncle Rupert  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:09 pm

    An opportunity lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone see Justin Timberlake in the ads for next week’s Grammy’s on CBS?

They should have put him on with Janet Jackson………and this time, she could have ripped his shirt off, exposing his breast with the CBS logo painted on his nipple.

This would have been the best ad ever — a promo for your own network. How could the other morning shows not talk about it? It would have been the talk of the town, err, country.

  • 30. Eric  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:13 pm

Is anyone else dying just a little bit inside seeing prince (or whatever he’s called now) playing Hendrix?

  • 31. Joe  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:15 pm

Waiting for Prince and his band to be electrocuted in the rain…

  • 32. Safran  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:19 pm

    MOST… APPROPRIATE… PURPLE RAIN… EVER

  • 33. Patrick Brown  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:26 pm

I actually thought that was one of the best SB halftime shows ever… clearly not lip syncing, and the rain made it look even more cool. I didn’t even mind the Hendrix (Prince CAN play guitar, he’s just kind of a freak).

  • 34. Jason  |  February 4th, 2007 at 6:42 pm

E*TRADE commericial was very creative… Caught me off guard. Solid A-

  • 35. Barney Lerten  |  February 4th, 2007 at 7:01 pm

I too liked that E*Trade surprise (did it say US Bank in the background?) - haven’t watched as attentively as the game goes on, but the FedEx one on names just now was a solid B, as was the Bud Light ax-wielding hitchhiker;-)

  • 36. katrina  |  February 4th, 2007 at 7:02 pm

    wwaaaay too many cbs promos.

  • 37. Cory  |  February 4th, 2007 at 7:43 pm

All the good commercials aired in the first half.

  • 38. Trevor  |  February 4th, 2007 at 8:22 pm

Is anyone going to watch Criminal Minds??? I never usally give these poorly produced CBS alzheimer’s loving procedurals a chance. But it is big event television, post superbowl show ( grey’s anatomy is the #1 drama now!). However the adds are kindof a turnoff… and yes there were wayyy to many CBS promos, I had no idea the last survivor even ended.. does anyone even watch that show anymore?

  • 39. BOB KRAMER  |  February 4th, 2007 at 8:35 pm

PHIL SIMMS DESTROYED THE SUPERBOWL HE IS THE WORST ON TV NEVER SHUTS UP

  • 40. Darrien  |  February 4th, 2007 at 8:54 pm

Any Video of Prince @ the Super Bowl. I didn’t watch…

  • 41. Uncle Rupert  |  February 4th, 2007 at 11:40 pm

What happened to Katie Couric’s hair during the pre-game? Yikes.

Her stylist ought to be canned.

She also had a lot of Botox plopped into that forehead, tighter than the jerseys on the offensive lineman.

To promote their lagging morrning show, they should have had some personalities in the stands, interviewing people.

  • 42. Uncle Rupert  |  February 5th, 2007 at 12:01 am

Digg’s Kevin Rose was seen in the Godaddy.com ads…..for a split second.

Those ads were kind of lame compared to years’ past.

What else was missing from the game? Cheerleader shots! That’s right, hardly saw any. That is the one thing that has always been a part of MNF telecasts.

Phil Simms never shuts up. Jim Nantz was his usual professional-self. Lots of facts and figures in that guy’s head. He’s a Dick Enberg in gentlemanly terms.

Joe Namath should have been on the field for the coin toss. After all, it was Miami and the Colts were on the field.

No mention of Shula coaching the Colts….when they were in Baltimore.

No sappy story on Bill Polian who was the Buffalo Bills’ GM during their SB run.

And the kicker from the Colts’ Super Bowl win against the Dolphins should have been there………..but not sure if that game was in Miami or New Orleans way back. Or, if he is still alive.

They need mics on the refs to let people listen to those huddles of theirs regarding calls.

Not too many over the field shots, using that cable cam, like you saw on Fox games during the playoffs. Maybe the rain had something to do with that.

Yeah, it rained, but I’d give CBS a C to a C+ on their broadcast.

  • 43. Uncle Rupert  |  February 5th, 2007 at 4:29 am

Oops…..Colts beat the Cowboys that year, not the Dolphins, but was it in Miami at the Orange Bowl??????

  • 44. thekeywestchannel  |  February 5th, 2007 at 7:56 am

    i’d give it an A+.

only because all the planning was most likely based on 70 degrees and partly cloudy at game time.

they pulled it off in something similar to conditions in an aquarium.
