Where’s the download of Prince’s halftime concert?
Steve Safran February 5th, 2007
I fully expected Prince’s outstanding 11 1/2 minute halftime show to be available on iTunes today. The show was great, “Purple Rain” in the rain was amazing, and the addition of a marching band was inspired. I wanted to pay for a good quality download. Nope. As near as I can tell, it’s not available. So I searched it out in some - ahem - alternative ways. No problem. Now I have it and I didn’t pay for it. The NFL and CBS milked every possible penny out of the game… how’d they miss this opportunity?

You enjoyed that? When will we get some REAL entertainment?

Outstanding? I sort of expect my musical entertainment to be in key from time to time.

steve, i couldn’t agree more…. and saw the user-generated clips of that by the time i logged on at work. i wonder how much they’ll wind up paying in lawyers’ fees, vs. the no-brainer money they’d have pulled in on itunes…

I saw it on YouTube, and I kinda regret not seeing it live. I thought it was good.

What’s up with the Prince haters? Did you want those Rolling Stones on again? Talk abut “off key”. Prince is greatness.

Can we stop with the “Prince is good”/”Prince stinks” argument? The bigger question is why it’s not available for the people who want it.

i thought the tossing of the “rag”, when it was apparently soaked, was a classic.
damn, that guy is an entertainer. you can decide on your own whether it was good or bad, but it held my attention.
that phallic looking shadow cast on the backdrop raise any fcc ire?

Probably wasn’t negotiated up front with Prince and his label, or it was and wasn’t deemed important enough to derail the deal.

It was a decent wardrobe-malfunction free halftime show.
That aside … whoever owns the broadcast rights to the halftime show - CBS, the NFL or his Royal Purpleness - must have made a conscience decision not to make it accessible online.
Meanwhile, all those advertisers from last night’s game are getting their money’s worth in free advertising on YouTube. Too bad the halftime show isn’t getting as much officially sanctioned viewing online.

what a bunch of nitpickers. The guy dominated in that performance. It was unbelievable. What kind of impossible standards do you have anyways? Off-key, maybe a split-second for a time or two, but whaddya want for a live performance in a massive downpour. Would you prefer lip-synching???

PRINCE is the most talented, versatile musician ever with universal appeal. Class, perfection, smooth, rough, sharp never flat. Over a quarter century and still going strong. Can’t wait to see him again!!
