Folks: We don't ask much of our commenters here. You do a terrific job of self-policing and the conversation is wonderful.

However, we do insist on respect. So this timely reminder to keep things above the belt and we'll never remove a post unless it's wildly profane, disrespectful, threatening harm or slanderous. Challenge each other, challenge us - even take shots at us, we can handle it (as we have for nearly 10 years). But keep respect at the base of the conversation, please.

And now back to our show.

regardless (i love "irregardless" better , but i'm trying) of my friend, #9's posturing, i have an observation that is worthy of discussion.

most of the clips on youtube are simply promos for the TV aspect of your company. if yt is to drive an audience to your tv signal only then you're well on your way. but how is anyone outside your broadcast signal going to do that?

wouldn't it make sense to promote your web property as well? maybe even moreso??? link to it??? imagine the possibilities!

my friends, YOUR BRAND is far more than a simple combination of 4 letters. your brand is now a world wide web channel!

Response and Question:

When you 'Sign Up' for youtube, you create a user name/ID. Just make that username / ID your call letters. It's that simple.

Once you're registered, you can make your call letters a youtube shortcut. (meaning - www[dot]youtube[dot]com/WBNS or whatever your calls are)

Even if your station doesn't use the user name, at least register it to protect yourself. Might be a good idea to register your call letters on myspace too.

also, wbns looks to have the skinny on cancelling your cell contract without penalties. it's mentioned on their homepage.

gotta wonder if a "public service message" like this would make the youtube hompage when verizon and at&t are advertisers

Hey! We got our calls as a youtube ID. In fact, I'd like to build and brand the "channel" more when sweeps settles down and we have a little more time on our hands.

BTW - We're currently working on a music video (from the band/song in our Superbowl promo) that should make for additional destination content on the web.

and just like that, the one guy whose station seems to understand the use of youtube shows up.

a quick search of yt displays nearly three pages of video when "wcco" is searched. funny, derushaj is a "member" of you tube. any relation????

jason, register "wcco" as an id before someone else does. frankly, it may already be taken. that's one problem with their "sign up" method; no way to check on availability prior to registering it.

i can't remember which of lr's posters pointed out that this is a must, but thanks whoever you are.

i would like to know what id's these are stations are using on youtube. one of the lr faithful posted the FACT that every station should register their brand(s) before someone else does. i checked, several have NOT.

also, npr had a story on bud.tv this afternoon. did anyone catch it? it was pretty darn good. i was really taken by the announcer's inflection when he called it a "web CHANNEL"... it was as if he never said anything but website in his life. i've got a fin that says it won't be the last time he uses that term.

so, how about it, does "your" station have its brands branded over at youtube yet?
