JOB SUMMARY:
The managing editor is solely responsible for all local news and
information on the site. This fast-paced, multi-faceted job is best
suited for a journalist who embraces multimedia technology.
Candidates must show an innovative and proactive approach to building
audience, collaborating with the TV newsroom and maintaining dominant
local news coverage. Big-picture planning is a crucial part of the
job, but most of the managing editor’s day is devoted to hands-on Web
journalism — enhancing stories from KCRA.com and theksbwchannel.com,
writing original articles and producing video clips and interactive
elements.
COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES) REQUIRED:
· Writes and edits news, integrating compelling and creative text,
still images, audio and video.
· Possesses the online acumen need to provide added value to reports
initially developed by broadcast reporters.
· Plans for the long-term growth of the site, sets priorities and
plans coverage for major events.
· Thinks strategically about developing the site’s audience and
the online capacities of newsroom staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· B.A. in Journalism or related field 3-5 years prior experience
working for a television news station, daily newspaper or in an
on-line news environment.
· Prior supervisory experience helpful. Ability to work in a team
setting with broadcast partners.
· Ability to deliver integrated compelling news stories quickly and
accurately, using sound news judgment.
· Ability to prioritize, work independently, and manage simultaneous
assignments within an intense deadline-driven environment.
· Ability to influence across the organization and work effectively
with all levels of management and staff.
· Knowledge of editing and AP stylebook standards and able to pass
IB’s editing test. Strong knowledge and familiarity with the
Internet
