In 20th Century Fox’s first digital deal with a third-party network (NBC), downloads of My Name is Earl are now available on iTunes, MySpace, IGN, AOL, WalMart and CinemaNow. You can also watch the show on NBC.com within one week after an episode airs. Here’s the season price tag for iTunes (you can also buy $1.99 an episode) and click below for the press release…

PRESS RELEASE — Emmy Award winning hit comedy series “My Name is Earl” is the highest-rated series from a third party network/studio to be made available to consumers via digital platforms following a digital distribution deal between the NBC network and the 20th Century Fox TV studio. Deal is 20th’s first with a third party broadcast network.

Effective immediately, viewers will be able to download commercial-free the complete first season of Earl for $37.99 (24 episodes), the complete second season for $36.99 (23 episodes) and individual episodes for $1.99 on the following platforms:

· MySpace and IGN
· I-Tunes (13-minute short “Bad Karma” free with purchase of complete first season)
· AOL, Walmart.com and CinemaNow

Viewers will also be able to stream each of the current Season Two episodes for free on NBC.com for one week following their initial broadcast.

Remarked 20th Century Fox TV Presidents Dana Walden and Gary Newman, “‘My Name is Earl’ is a perfect comedy for the digital age – it’s youthful, innovative and incredibly funny. Making a deal that extends the show’s reach was important to both companies and will be a huge win for the show, for its fans and for the new viewers we’ll recruit through these alternative platforms. We’re thrilled to see it happen.”

“Now more than ever, it’s critically important to be using the emerging digital markets strategically,” said Marc Graboff, President, NBC Universal Television, West Coast. “This deal is an excellent example of how this network and our studio partners can work together to give a series like “Earl” every advantage that these emerging distribution platforms have to offer. We are thrilled to be in close collaboration with our partners at Twentieth.”

Let’s see, I can buy low-quality, restricted use downloads for $37 or I can buy the high quality DVD box set complete with extras, the ability to play it wherever I want, and the rights to sell it if I so choose for $30 online.

    Will they ever learn?
