You should check out the UK newspaper the Northern Echo www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk .A reporter tells jokes. Then he goes out dressed as Scooby Doo, tells jokes to the public and gets them to tell a joke in return. Silly. But very watchable.

cory:

keep posting this "best of" stuff. the more we see where other people are taking risks and breaking ground, the more we will be pushed to do the same or better.

We've started a very loose feature at TheIndyChannel.com with the station's morning weather and traffic reporter. They've got a nice rapport, and I think it translates well to the web. It's high on comedy, with some weather/traffic info tossed in. We've been doing it for about a week. You can see an example by clicking my name.

As a GA reporter who blogs and video blogs, it's critical to do it regularly. It's very difficult to accomplish that. But if you stay on it, stay committed to it, you can build an audience. I take the time I have while my story is being edited to write a quick blog entry. Or the time I'm waiting for a call back. But I try to blog every day, and videoblog a couple times a week.

Another thing WFAA does is they let their reporters and anchors do video blogs.

We do a couple things at our station. My colleague Ben Tracy does a segment called "Good Question" every night. He gets a ton of e-mailed questions, and answers 1 a day in a video e-mail that people sign up for (go to wcco.com slash goodquestion).

I've been experimenting with some videoblogging, although we don't have a good vlog page yet. I e-mail it to subscribers, and post it in the video section of my blog (click my name- I've linked the video).

WFAA.com in Dallas has its own web video reporter, the Mobile Journalist or "MoJo", who files 2-3 reports a day exclusively for their site on various topics. He's carved out his own niche on their site.
