Google says YouTube filters coming ‘very soon’
Cory Bergman February 22nd, 2007
With the broadcast and cable networks turning their backs on YouTube (see yesterday’s story), Google CEO Eric Schmidt promised that the video site’s much-anticipated copyright filtering tools are “going to roll out very soon” and they’re “one of the company’s highest priorities.” YouTube’s biggest mistake was promising the technology — which would identify copyrighted video by unique “fingerprints” — would roll out at the first of the year. Since then, Viacom has pulled all its clips, CBS’ deal is “unraveling” and NBCU’s lawyers have told the site to remove all its video.

You know, if they can get it to work, great. But, I’ve been playing with adwords lately and clearly there’s a robotic algorithm which measures a phrase’s relevance.
If the accuracy of that performance is any indication, then let’s hope they put in some kind of appeals process for this new filter. Otherwise, they may be opening themselves up for disappointing a whole new group of folks.
I’m just saying…

Make sure LR keeps showing those charts that illustrate when clips are removed from YT, traffic doesn’t appreciably increase at the corporate websites.

“one of the companies highest priorities”
right behind more ping pong balls and the new bowling lanes @ headquarters.

That’s funny. When a PR-type says “Very soon”, that’s engineer-speak for “two weeks” which really means “We don’t have a clue when it’ll be out of Beta.”
Keep in mind the only engineer - online or otherwise - that has ever delivered what he promised on deadline was Scotty.
