The intrepretive dances were kind of cool. (Words that I never thought would come out of my mouth...)

I thought the HD part of the show looked awesome. The sound effect chorus would have been better if they would have stayed on that wide shot longer- so I could see the video they were singing to.

And the text on the screen of Mellisa Ethridge performance was distracting and too preachy. I worry that Hollywood has set back the cause of going green by providing radio talk show hosts with weeks worth of material.

Oh, I thought the special effects chorus was cool, as did my kids. In fact, I thought they did a pretty good job this year highlighting those "other" awards - the ones we usually (perhaps still) care less about. I liked the tableaux of costumes, the cheeky sound gags - I thought those worked better than some of the other missteps.

The high point? The Will Ferrell/Jack Black/John C. Reilly musical number about how pointless it is to win an Oscar if in you're in a comedy, even if it's a terrific comedy and you're a terrific comedian. It's an excellent point. Why does the Academy continue to turn its nose down on comedy? I HATE that great comedic actors have to make a "star turn" in a Serious Actor moment to win an Oscar, finally.

Everyone agrees on what's sad. It's damn hard to make people laugh.

Seinfeld should have hosted. He got more laughs in his :60 intro to the Documentary Feature award than DeGeneres got all night.

I'm having a hard time deciding what was worse: The Michael Winslow Singers (special effect chorus) or the shadow puppets.

The show's director seems to have lost his ADD medication - every three seconds a different cut to another shot. The Academy needs to figure out that the quick cut MTV style has somewhat gone away. And the camera ops didn't seem as well prepared either. Lots of last second movements and camera - shake to get the shot.

Finally, if KNOW a guy is going to make a long speech - example, the Italian music composer - I think you're gonna need a better translator than CLINT EASTWOOD

I'm watching in New Zealand on Sky Movies, and the switches in/out of the commercials are terrible. America is using various motifs to fill the breaks (oscar quote graphics, crane shots of the outside statues) but everything abruptly starts & stops.
I loved Will & Jack's song, but the sound crew are having a bit of a dodgy night.

i've never seen Ellen with so much make-up.

i love Ellen, but her opening stand-up was not her best -- the jokes were directed at all the stars, not the audience at home.

and yes, Hollywood loves Al Gore.
