This is not how talent gets better and proves itself
in the marketplace. This show is all about hype and
the race, which is what TV does to political candidates
as well. Talent like Sinatra, Martin and Lewis, Elvis,
Dolly Parton, Beatles, Jackson Five, Seinfeld, Letterman, Leno, you name it, they honed their craft in front of small club audiences, learning what worked and what didn’t. That’s how it’s done. If you don’t have that experience, you don’t know what people like and don’t like, what to fix and what to bring out. It’s too bad people in our business don’t know much about marketing otherwise they’d understand that this show is just pure crap as far as helping us all discover new talent that will be able to thrive in the real world.

    Dan,

Did a single example you offer make it after 1990? The world changes. Elvis Sinatra made it in a pretty different enviroment. . The Jackson five, Dolly Parton….Wow those are pretty dated examples. Never mind the fact that they thrived with a music business that has stumbled to change and stay profitable and relevent. To say the least.
