BBC inks video deal with YouTube
Cory Bergman March 2nd, 2007
The BBC has started posting old entertainment shows and promotional trailers on YouTube. Coming soon, BBC News will post 30 clips a day, but the advertising-funded clips would not be viewable by users in the UK who pay the license fees that fund the BBC. “It’s essential that the BBC embraces new ways of reaching wider audiences with non-exclusive partnerships such as these,” Director-General Mark Thompson said.

Series 3 of “Doctor Who” starts at the end of the month. I’ll be watching for those clips and grabbing the shows with Bittorrent as soon as I can!
(and yes, I often watch them again on Sci-Fi. I’m that much of a geek.)

I really hope they start posting Top Gear episodes! There has been a slew of clips that have disappeared from YouTube lately.

if you read between the lines of this you’ll see the bbc is in control.
why the nets take an all or nothing approach to youtube (presently nothing) is beyond comprehension.
the bbc’s deal is non-exclusive. and you don’t think youtube staff will jump when the bbc says they want something pulled?
