TodayShow.com gets its own URL
Cory Bergman March 5th, 2007
The Today Show’s web presence has always been a subsection on MSNBC.com, but today the show debuted its own URL, TodayShow.com, with a unique look and expanded features. “We recognize that the ‘Today’ brand and its fan base deserve a distinctive destination rather than existing solely as an MSNBC.com subsection. We’ve created a unique ‘Today’ environment with its own URL and a standalone experience,” said Charlie Tillinghast, president of MSNBC.com. The new site is basically co-branded with iVillage, and it features plenty of content from the women’s lifestyle site. TodayShow.com also features a Today Show blog called AllDay, Al Roker video blog, new columnists and message boards. Press release after the screen grab…

PRESS RELEASE - March 5, 2007 - MSNBC.com announces a new “TODAY” experience online now available at TODAYshow.com. The redesigned site launches today giving “TODAY’s” growing online audience a fully-immersive “TODAY” experience with a new look, new editorial content and new interactive features. TODAYshow.com focuses on the people of “TODAY” - newsmakers, celebrities, anchors, correspondents, production staff, viewers at home and online, even the fans outside Studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza.
“Since MSNBC.com launched in 1996, the ‘TODAY’ section has been a critical part of NBC News’ online presence,” said Charlie Tillinghast, President of MSNBC.com, “but we recognize that the ‘TODAY’ brand and its fan base deserve a distinctive destination rather than existing solely as an MSNBC.com subsection. We’ve created a unique ‘TODAY’ environment with its own URL and a standalone experience.”
“The expansion of ‘TODAY’ on MSNBC.com is a testament to the momentum of ‘TODAY,’ both on-air and online,” said Steve Capus, President of NBC News. “A dedicated site combining the forces of ‘TODAY,’ MSNBC.com and now iVillage really gives our viewers a powerful online complement to our already morning-leading broadcast.”
TODAYshow.com features new topical sections, a daily “TODAY” blog, a weekly behind-the-scenes video blog from Al Roker, new columnists, message boards, in-depth stories about newsmakers and highlights from iVillage.com.
• Four new topic sections include People, Participate, Travel and Pets. In People, photos, interviews, and profiles of the guests and contributors that make “TODAY” unique will be available. Participate encourages user interaction with the show and with other users via blogs, message boards, live votes and email.
• “All Day” (www.allday.msnbc.com), “TODAY’s” exclusive new blog, gives viewers a virtual window to Studio 1A and the people who make America’s favorite morning show come alive. It is updated several times a day with posts from “TODAY” talent, producers, correspondents and contributors and invites viewer comments to create an active conversation between “TODAY” and its audience.
• Co-anchor Al Roker will contribute weekly video blogs that go behind-the-scenes at “TODAY,” introducing the people and places that are seldom seen by the public.
• In his new weekly “Travel Detective” column, long-time “TODAY” contributor Peter Greenberg shares his travel secrets and answers viewer questions.
• Select content from NBC sibling iVillage.com rounds out the offering with links to tools such as the popular Makeover-O-Matic and the 3-D Pregnancy Calendar for moms-to-be.
“IVillage is thrilled to be a part of MSNBC.com’s relaunch of TODAYshow.com,” said Deborah Fine, President of iVillage Properties. “There is a natural synergy between the audiences of iVillage and ‘TODAY’ and this is an ideal place to collaborate and best serve that audience.”
“‘TODAY’s’ online component and community is such an important and vital part of the show,” said Jim Bell, Executive Producer of “TODAY.” “It’s exciting to expand on the interactive experience that we’ve shared with our audience, their presence online plays such a significant role with the ‘TODAY’ franchise whether it be by voting in our wedding series or sounding off about a segment - the interaction is invaluable.”
“TODAYshow.com better expresses the personality and diversity of America’s favorite morning ritual, ‘TODAY.’” said Randy Stearns, MSNBC.com Deputy Editor. “We strive to be a treasured destination where people come each day to find the information they crave, and to participate in an ongoing conversation about the topics they care about most.”

never went there before but it looks like they could use a lesson in masking.
it still resolves to today.msnbc.msn.com/id…
wouldn’t be that tough to make it look like the “free standing” channel they billed it as.

Invited,
They should just be thetodayshowchannel.com.
3. invitedmedia | March 5th, 2007 at 11:36 am
good sense of humor, don.
they do however already own thetodayshow.com, so it wouldn’t take much.
and while reading a link to broadcasting and cable today their skybox had a banner for thesportsmanchannel.com .
see, it’s catching on.

It’s as freestanding as it can be in an MSN world.
MSNBC resolves to msnbc.msn.com.
It’s the promoted URL and the look-and-feel that sets it apart.

speaking of an “msn world”…
isn’t it about time for another round of speculation as to msnbc dropping the “ms” part?

Welcome to 3 years ago, Today Show!
Good to know you’re finally figuring out that the kids these days are into that whole Interweb doohickey.
No longer an afterthought! America’s soccer moms and/or Clay Aiken fans now have a home on the Internets!

The oops that happened when the page walked out to soon makes your show personal and not so stuffed shirted.
The segment you had on hooking up was very disturbing to me. Don’t students have God on their minds and saving themselfs for their soul mate. This means both boys and girls.

Tried to find recipes that appeared today. Liked the old format where you just needed to find the segment to find the information.
Not user friendly.

you guys have been reporting the fires on the west coast and in florida but,no one has been reporting the fire that has burnt over 20,000 acres in north eastern minnesota. There is also a report of 50 some buildings lost in this area due to this fire which is still going strong! Today the conditions will be worse because of strong winds predicted!! Why is this fire not reported on your show? This part of northern minnesota and northern wisconsin are still part of the u.s.a. the last time I looked!!

PLEASE, PLEASE…….STOP LETTING ANN DUE PERSONAL INTERVIEWS. SHE IS TOO SAPPY. IF HER GOAL WAS TO MAKE ANGELINA CRY BY HER STUPID QUESTIONS ABOUT HER MOTHER’S DEATH THEN SHE HAS SUCCEEDED. SHE HAS DONE SO MANY TIMES WITH HER INCONSIDERATE QUESTIONS THAT I NO LONGER MAKE IT HABIT TO WATCH HER AT ALL BUT I HAPPENED TO CATCH THE CRYING SCENE AND HER QUESTION. I AM SO SURE MATT OR AL OR MEREDITH COULD DO SUCH A BETTER JOB.
I REALIZE YOU PROBABLY NEVER READ THESE COMMENTS BUT AS A FAN I HAD TO TELL YOU MY THOUGHTS

You guys do too many commercials and Al’s weather every 30 seconds is unnecessary. I think your your guests are interesting but it’s too long in between if there is something you want to see. Also, why does eveyone talk at the same time?

You should get rid of, or help Mederith change. It is just
awful. Her hair is out date, her teeth are awful, and she
just trys too hard.
She just is not working out. Her clothes are just are just
awful.
You have pently of other people on the show that would\
be much be.
I know that my opinion doesn’t amount of much. but what
is worth I am sure she is a very nice lady, but the wrong job.

just a thought about saturday morning’s fashion segment. THE HIPPIES AND EVEN THE BEATNIKS BEFORE THEM WERE WEARING BRIGHT COLORS AND UNUSUAL PATTERNS BEFORE THE SO-CALLED PREPPIES EVEN EXISTED!!! of course that young so-called fashion expert wasn’t even born yet.

I THINK YOU SHOULD KEEP YOUR ON SITE REPORTER, KERI SANDERS IN THE OFFICE, BEHIND A SAFE DESK !
I HAVE NEVER SEEN A REPORTER ANY MORE AFRAID OF A HURRICANE , SO MUCH IT SERIOUSLY AFFECTED WHAT HE WAS TRYING TO REPORT. NEXT TIME SEND A REAL MAN OUT THERE TO DO THE STORY !

re: cell phones
NYC teachers can’t use their cell phones at work. I followed the rules and my children in shock could not remember the new school that I was working at or my school phone number. My phone was off. My husband had passed away and I was not reached till I got home from work 4 hours later. I believe that students should not have phones in schools.

Where is Campbell? We miss her on the weekend and wonder what happened.
20. Ruth | September 7th, 2007 at 8:03 am
I, too, miss Campbell. Hope she is doing well with her pregnancy and it’s simply maternity leave that keeps her off.
But, the real reason I’m writing is for 2 days I’ve tried to vote on the Wedding Gown, and have yet to find a link that will enable me to. I did find a link for my opinion on the woman who left her daughter in the car for 8 hours. I did vote on that, and was really surprised that 53% wanted her charged and only 19% felt she has suffered enough and will for the rest of her life.

This is my comment on the segment with the young lady who was having a dispute over her dress attire with the airlines.I agree with the airlines completely. When she was on the show with Matt, she stood up and when she sat down you could see her underwear. I have a young daughter and I would not let her out of the house with a skirt that short. What is happening to the young people these days? Do they not have any respect for themselves?

I was impressed by your camera crew when they showed the sign for Vasculitis, but you could tell that Al has no idea what Vasculitis is, I would like to tell you. It is a inflamation of blood vessels and can be very devistating. There are some types that can kill quickly. It is a very sneaky disease. Thank you for giving it even two seconds of air time.

You did a segment a couple of weeks ago about 25 things you didn’t know. You did 5 things each day. Is there a book ;and ,if so ,what is the name of it?

Ann Curry is the worst! She talks over people, when they are trying to answer her question. She gets in your space. Keep her in the news, she can stutter through that because it’s not interesting anyway.
