Content Director, req #051-07
JOB SUMMARY:
The content director oversees editorial content and operations across
a group of IBS sites. This person also acts as the primary liaison
between the local sites and IBS headquarters, continually
communicating with editors, local news directors and other station
managers while managing projects as needed. This is not a technical
position, although familiarity with basic Internet publishing
technology is expected. Primarily, this is a news management and
relationship position. Reports directly to the Partner Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Manage relationship with local sites.
Act as a representative of partner sites at HQ. Keep local editors
and station management informed of important developments, policy
changes and new projects. Receive feedback, questions and complaints
from the field; assist in finding answers and solutions. Promptly
answer questions and concerns from TV managers, or relay them to
other IBS managers/departments as appropriate. Act as a liaison
between local editors and IBS tech staff in resolving extraordinary
issues. Lead bi-monthly conference calls for local managing
editors. Attend frequent meetings with other content managers. Work
closely with Partner Director to plan for the long-term growth of the
sites, setting priorities and planning coverage for major events and
partner initiatives.
· Supervise local content and operations.
Monitor the presentation and quality of local editorial content,
particularly during breaking news and weather, or major planned
events. Encourage local editors to maximize the creative/interactive
resources and national content available to them. Work with local
managing editors, station management and IBS producers to make
special sections and station initiatives the best they can be.
Emphasize the importance of TV-Web cross promotion and share best
practices of good TV-Web promotion. Thinks strategically about
developing the partner sites’ revenue potential as well as its
audience potential.
· Coordinate projects.
Assist Partner Director with management of project strategies and
consultation. Including determining project goals, measurement
metrics, conception, planning/brainstorming, recommending technology
and functional possibilities, and assist in the specification of
final technical requirements. Coordinate day-to-day plans and
deadlines for assigned projects and maintain frequent/as needed
communication. Disseminate pertinent information to the team in a
timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
REQUIRED:
· 5 years experience with online & traditional media. TV newsroom
experience is preferred.
· Prior management experience. Remote management & project
management experience is preferred.
· Strong familiarity with trends, economics and technologies
influencing the evolution of online news.
· Basic understanding of Internet publishing, Web hosting and
multimedia production.
· Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently and pleasantly with
people of varying backgrounds — from TV news directors to database
programmers.
· Must be able to handle and prioritize multiple projects and to
adjust to changes to satisfy client needs.
· Ability to think strategically and work autonomously.
