Actually, I know for a fact that Don's page views surpass the traffic of top-ranked TV sites in much larger cities. And "___channel," you'd be surprised to know that the other TV site that Don runs actually has the location name in the URL. :)

laurie,

how much of an issue was it to brand your community web channel as something besides kark.com?

hey! our tv website only has 3 ads on the homepage (that are forced to rotate with promos). the thing is, our goal was to get away from the traditional tv website and become more of a "community portal." i linked it, so click my lovely name to see more.

Wow. Very Impressive. I also really like the headlines. Very well designed AND written. Everything grabbed my attention and was very easy to understand and navigate. Easily one of the best magazine/news websites out there.

i couldn't agree more, cory

i'm still trying to find out why, in a demanding, potentially exciting medium like web, TV stations think it's the bee's knees to barf their TV graphics upon the computer screen and call it a website.

are TV managers so burned out that instead of launching bold web initiatives, they just look at the latest iteration of IBS design and copy it (or sign up with ibs/worldnow?)

TV station sites have outstanding potential with video, weather and breaking news, yet as LR keeps harping, NEWSPAPERS keep beating them at their own game.

there's design that sucks, but the bigger question is do most TV stations understand how to strategize, how to think in the new paradigm and move their businesses to the 21st century? i think not.
