Is that a TV screen strapped to your head?
Cory Bergman March 16th, 2007
A company called Headplay has introduced this wearable video monitor called a Personal Cinema System. Headplay says it’s just like watching a 52-inch TV from 6 feet away. “While watching, I kept questioning whether the screen looked like a big screen, or a small one that looked like a big one because it was only a few inches away and I was wearing the equivalent of a scuba mask,” writes CNET’s Michael Kanellos, who says the picture quality is a lot better than you might think. Price tag? $499.

You know - I’ve tried a few of these things. And I generally even like them and wouldn’t mind having them, geek that I am. (Cory: think LR Office Christmas Presents.)
But I’ve never understood the “It’s like a 48 inch screen” or a “52 inch screen” or whatever nonsense. It is most definitely like watching a small screen, close by. Excellent clarity, but at no point do you think “Jeez - this is a monster picture!”
It’s the same as when headphones brag that “it’s like listening to surround sound speakers!” No, it isn’t. It’s just better than some other headphones.
