Portals devouring online ad sales, finds study

Cory Bergman March 19th, 2007

Look at this latest eMarketer study on the Big Four (Google, Yahoo, AOL, MSN).

While ad spending is still growing fast, the portals are taking an increasing majority share of it. Two-thirds! Not good news for media companies, to say the least, especially when you consider how the portals are aggressively going after local ad dollars.

what appeared to be a personal shot at my friend Don last week was really more bait which he didn’t take, to his credit.

can somebody point out a few local web channels whose numbers have actually increased over the last year???

i’ve been watching a number of them, and unless the charts are all wrong, NONE of them have gained. matter of fact the trend is lower highs and lower lows.

in the stock market that’s a sure sign to SELL.

any local web channels want to step forward?

for the life of me, I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND why all the newspaper companies have signed deals with Yahoo/Hotjobs…

    DUMB, DUMB, DUMB

they are just handing their content over to them for what? so they can get “national exposure” and some “good tools” down the road?

give me a break. Yahoo, with AP’s help, is trying to take over local — and they are doing a great job so far.

with classifieds and content (not to mention they’re trying to grab video from several companies through “great deals”) they are going to take over.

and, you think I am kidding? they don’t go out and hire the former head of Knight Ridder DIgital for no reason..

they have local markets dead in their sights!!!

    wake up!
