Here come the Apple TV hacks

When people asked me why I wanted a closed-loop system like Apple TV (it only works with iTunes downloads), I responded that there will be plenty of hacks soon enough. But I didn’t think it would be this soon. AppleTVHacks.net is born.

Apple TV is NOT a closed loop system! It will play any Quicktime or file which is converted into Quicktime. There’s plenty of software and freeware out there which will also allow you to put your DVDs on the system.
