MSNBC.com debuts new logo
Cory Bergman April 1st, 2007
MSNBC.com is in the process of a gradual, stage-by-stage redesign. The first step is a new logo and a redesigned top nav. Screen grab…

Click the new slogan, “A Fuller Spectrum of News,” for a preview of MSNBC.com’s upcoming RSS game Newsbreaker, a beta download of new screensaver called NewsStream and a video clip of the site’s new ad campaign.
Adds Rex in comments: “This is just a graphic change for now. You’ll start to see incremental changes over the next several months. (It’s) a staged relaunch.”

“a fuller spectrum of news” Fuller? Layout works better than before but “fuller?”

I noticed that on the video player over the weekend…will anything on-air be tweaked as well?

1) This is just a graphic change for now. You’ll start to see incremental changes over the next several months.
2) This is an online-only campaign.

..and if you drill into the range of special reports and other areas of depth, it IS “a fuller spectrum or news” or at least this reader thinks so.

I hope no one stayed up too late one night coming up with that new logo design…
“Let’s see…okay, focus, man. What can we do…that has the peacock…and the name of the station. DAMN, this is HARD!”

It’s so generic, and cluttered. From the Avenir Black logo to the plain text everywhere to the smaller photos to the HTML boxes on the side… it doesn’t have a brand.

One more time: this is a staged relaunch. You’ll see the site incrementally change a ton over the next several months.

That new ad for msnbc.com has a quick voiceover clip from John Seigenthaler… who had his last day at NBC yesterday.
Nice.

I was wrong, it’s Gotham, not Avenir, right Rex?

It’s not really a new logo, but it is a hell of a lot better than the boxy “L” shaped logo that was on there. And that screensaver is very cool.

It just shows ya, Rex. You can put as much effort as you want into the architecture and content. At the end of the day, some people only judge you on the anchor’s hairdo.
Keep up the good work - people will notice the stuff that actually matters.

The new logo is very generic, looks like it came from one of those online web 2.0 logo generators… miraculously they didn’t added the “beta”. At least the previous logo was distinctive.

a-team: Funny you should say that since part of the agency pitch was that MSNBC needed and updated Web 2.0 logo.
