MySpace announces online presidential primary

David Johnson April 4th, 2007

MySpace users will cast their votes on January 1 and 2, weeks in advance of the Iowa and New Hampshire primaries. According to Nielsen, MySpace users seek high engagement with candidates online and are 42 percent more likely to watch politically related online video, 35 percent more likely to research politics online, and 44 percent more likely to listen to political audio online.

Cory adds: Check out the MySpace home page today. Now that’s an ad…

As News Corp. leverages MySpace to generate more revenue, it will be interesting to see how they balance the ad experience with the user experience. Merrill Lynch predicts MySpace’s ad revenue will jump 201 percent this year to $271 million.

can we be the least bit careful about this?

    it is not a “primary.”

it is a non-scientific popular poll.

unless broken down by state; registered and of age voters; and party registration it has as much meaning but less effect than the American Idol voting.

if sites like this don’t keep a stunt like this in some form of perspective, we in general and LR in specific just become part of the last line of the post above–part of the drive toward helping myspace meet its revenue “projections.”

    Myspace still exists?
Wow! I could’ve sworn their fifteen minutes were up.
