PARTNER MANAGER, REQ #057-07

JOB SUMMARY:

The partner manager oversees the news editors and editorial content
across an ownership group of local TV stations. This person also acts
as the primary liaison between the local sites and IBS headquarters,
continually communicating with IBS editors in the field, as well as
with local news directors and other newsroom managers. This is not a
technical position, although familiarity with basic Internet
publishing technology is expected. Primarily, this position requires
strong news, management and relationship-building skills.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Manage staff at local sites.

Hire managing editors and supervise the hiring of editors.

Approve staff schedules, arrange training, and manage PTO/vacation
time. Coach managing editors and mediate routine personnel issues.
Administer annual performance reviews; communicate performance goals
and feedback on an ongoing basis.

Supervise local content.

Monitor the presentation and quality of local editorial content,
particularly during breaking news and weather, or major planned
events.

Encourage local editors to maximize the creative/interactive
resources and national content available to them.

Work with local managing editors and IBS producers to make special
sections and station initiatives the best they can be.

Emphasize the importance of TV-Web cross promotion and share
best-practices of good TV-Web promotion.
Coordinate technical projects.

Coordinate plans and deadlines for projects involving complex
technical processes such as election results and school closing
datafeeds.

Be a liaison between local editors and IBS tech staff in
resolving extraordinary issues.

Connect remote editors with headquarters.

Act as a representative of local editors at HQ. Receive feedback,
questions and complaints from the field; assist in finding answers
and solutions.

Keep local editors informed of important developments, policy changes
and new projects at headquarters. Lead bi-monthly conference calls for
local managing editors. Attend frequent meetings with other content
managers.

Cultivate good partner relationships.

Make sure all local editors project a positive, responsive, engaged
presence in their TV newsrooms.

Make sure managing editors report site successes and traffic trends
to station management on a regular basis.

Promptly answer questions and concerns from TV managers, or relay
them to other IBS managers/departments as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES)
REQUIRED:

At least 5 years of experience in journalism; at least 2 year in
online news or online-related field. TV newsroom experience is
preferred.

Significant management experience. Remote management experience is
preferred.

Strong familiarity with trends, economics and technologies
influencing the evolution of online news.

Basic understanding of Internet publishing, Web hosting and
multimedia production.

Ability to communicate clearly, efficiently and pleasantly with
people of varying backgrounds - from TV news directors to database
programmers.
