  Truth be told, I bet you’d be hard pressed to find a seasoned journalist in Iraq who would agree, privately, that we should stick it out

  I could care less what any journalist says about whether we should be in Iraq or not. As a matter of fact it’s not there job to advocate one position over the other. And it is quite obvious from the bias reporting that comes from there what these reporters feel. They don’t have to keep their thoughts private, it all comes out in t heir reporting.

  Maybe we should “just leave”. What bothers me though is these arguments are almost purely emotional, not analytical. What will happen if we do leave? The “Leave” poster says Iraqis will unite, kill all the Al Qaeda, and learn to live in harmony.

  Too bad, folks. Journalists are real people with real opinions. And it is absolutely in the best interests of democracy to have people go to the scene of a war and deliver their analysis. I can’t help but note that the war cheerleaders are those who have not been there.

  Liberal media? In Fox News and Talk Radio Nation? Come up with a new piece of sheep’s clothing.

  And allow Cory and other journos their opinion. Only a robot could look at that situation and have no emotion.

  Actually Safran, while we hear very little about what our troops think, from the little that we do get it seems the majority feel they are engaged in something worthwhile, and accomplishing something. My point about emotions wasn’t that you shouldn’t have them, or express them, just that it’s not a good idea to formulate policy or strategy based on them. I’ve heard it said that if we leave precipitously, we will have to go back under even worse circumstances. Is that right or wrong? I’m sure I don’t know…but I’m reluctant to jump on the “bring ‘em home immediately” bandwagon until I hear that issues thoroughly evaluated/debated.

  we can easily win in iraq, but not militarily.

  a diplomatic solution is the ultimate win so we’ll have to wait for a new admin.

  that is if we actually hold an election in ‘08.

  I’m a journalist. I also spent a year pushing bullets in Baghdad as a federalized Army Guardsman whose battalion was attached to the 1st Cav. I led an infantry squad, had to bury one of my troops, watched another nearly lose an arm to a roadside bomb, watched mosques and Green Zone checkpoints get suicide bombed, got mortarted and rocketed, went on raids and patrols and sat in guard towers for countless hours gazing out across the Baghdad skyline while listening for the delicate sound of medevac choppers and their Cobra escorts inbound to the CASH from Fallujah and gunfire coming down from Haifa Street.

  I left a lot out - some things maybe not fit to print for a widely-read blog that probably has a ‘George Carlin Dirty Word’ filter - but you get the gist.

  Anyway, to respond to Rocker’s first comment about what troops really think, here’s a brief summary of how I “personally” felt - and many of the guys I served with - about the handling of the war while I was in Iraq: Charlie Foxtrot.

  Here’s how it was suggested I respond when asked by members of the media (before I was honorably discharged): We are performing a vital mission to provide support and stability to the Iraqi Provisional Government (This was in 2004 - 05) and the peace-loving people of Iraq.

  Anyway … I think anyone who has spent any time in-country regardless of their job can have an opinion. They earned that right to an opinion the hard way, and having worked with or in proximity to embeds, I respect ‘em for going out with us with cameras not guns. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back as a journalist.

  Are we fighting a war on terror or aren’t we?
  Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001? Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation’s capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania? Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn’t they? And I’m supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was “desecrated” when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet?…
  Well, I don’t. I don’t care at all. I’ll start caring when Osama
  bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent
  people on 9/11. I’ll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle
  East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a
  crime in Saudi Arabia . I’ll care when these thugs tell the world they are
  sorry for hacking off Nick Berg’s head while Berg screamed through his
  gurgling slashed throat. I’ll care when the cowardly so-called
  “insurgents” in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting
  their own religion by hiding in mosques. I’ll care when the mindless
  zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide bombs. I’ll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights. In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don’t care. When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don’t care. When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don’t care. When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed “special” food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being “mishandled,” you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don’t fucking care. And oh, by the way, I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s spelled “Koran” and other times “Quran.” Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and -you guessed it -I don’t care ! ! ! ! ! If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your e-mail friends. Sooner or later, it’ll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior! If you don’t agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don’t complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great country! And may I add: Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the American soldier’s don’t have that problem.   Annalists are already predicting a huge sweep of leftists coming into both houses of congress along with the white house this fall. These leftists openly consider christians the enemies of the state even above the terrorists. These people itch to pass gay marriage and write hate legislation aimed directly against christian patriots.   “Reading this particular book has made me aware of how christians have come to accept biblical spin and less than honest interpretations when reading books on Bible prophecy.” When I started reading “Bible prophecies of 9 - 11″ the whole idea of 9 - 11 and Iraq being in Bible prophecy admittedly was quite appealing to me.

  But it seemed very far fetched and I fully expected to discover another fiction story cleverly masked behind a another “new” biblical declaration. I fully expected to see the familiar hand picking of quotes deliberately coming from the authors’ selection of unrelated texts to manipulate the meaning of Bible text. I’ve learned that it is a common trick to cleverly combine unrelated verses from separated biblical context in order to stretch readers’ perception beyond the original focus toward the authors’ conclusions, creating the appearance that authors conclusions are also supported by the Bible.

  My first surprise while reading this book was to see this author approach things quite differently by laying a biblical foundation from Adam and Eve with the tree of life story, establishing common threads for his entire biblical claim. As the first chapters began to build solidly on biblical themes I quickly realized this particular author was either seriously attempting to link legitimate patterns of bible prophecy, or he was using an even more clever deception to mislead me. This author surprisingly understood the procedure to outline proper types and shadows and stay within one context while linking proper biblical themes. Since the author was not spinning I suspected that he would postpone taking of his liberties until he would be forced into a corner having to demonstrate 9 - 11 towers falling and eagle’s wings into modern Iraq.

  To my surprise the transition was smooth and never broke context or prophetic flow. Not only was 9 - 11 coming straight from the Bible but almost every highly specific detail, including the number of planes that hit each target, was referenced in the Bible with numerous exact details specifically related to 9 - 11. This book does not just stop there, but continued to unwind the scenario of America going to Iraq spelling out the exact manner of Saddam’s capture and execution. This was a highly unusual book! This book was based on what was written in the Bible and relied solely upon that premise. How do I react to this other than try to convince someone to read it and find out? I feel concerned that christians are so used to being tricked by each cry of wolf that when the real thing appears there will be a little comprehension that something amazing has occurred. I have wracked my mind as to how this could have possibly been fixed and there is no possible way other than Gods prophets deliberately sent us this intentional message about Iraq and 9 - 11.
