The ‘Blogger toolkit’ on CBS.com

Cory Bergman May 17th, 2007

To help promote CBS’ upcoming shows, CBS.com has set up a Blogger toolkit that allows people like us to grab a player from a given show and embed it online. Cool idea. The promo for The Big Bang Theory is embedded below (it’s actually rather funny):

While the embedding is working (you have to manually set the player size in the code), the video links are not. They link to Innertube and for me, nothing plays. LR reader Adm had the same problem and sent us an email. “After a couple more tries, I gave up, wrote this complaint, and moved on. If anyone can get this to work, let me know. If not, send this one back to the labs, CBS.”

Update: The embedded player isn’t is sort of working in Firefox.

Yeah, the embedded thing is not working for me in Firefox, either. On your site or on mine. Annoying!

Weird, I’m on Firefox 2 and it’s working fine for me. Looks like a decent show!

I meant to say this earlier: this is yet another demonstration of why the networks should just use YouTube and leave it at that. A friend of mine was able to get it working in Firefox. I wasn’t. No idea why. I just want to watch the video. Why are they making it harder for me to watch their content?

Innertube doesn’t work cuz it’s a pop-up so if you have pop-up blocking software it will block it.

Have tested on Mozilla and works for me.

It works great for me on both Firefox & Safari.
Right on CBS! Very cool idea!

It worked for me in IE 7, but it took three clicks. One to activate the window, the second to make the controls appear and the third to click the play button.

Perfectly logical - if you’re getting paid by the click…
