Group: Viewers watch syndicated shows live

The Syndicated Network Television Association points to one week of Nielsen ratings that show that 86 percent of TV viewers watched syndicated shows live, compared to 60 percent for network broadcast TV. “You cannot electronically skip a commercial if people are watching a program live,” says Mitch Burg, president of SNTA.

  2. no, but you sure can flip to another channel, go get a soda from the fridge, stop by the can and take care of biz, write a novel, take out the trash, visit LR, thepomoblog, rosenblumtv’s blog, etc. and still be back before the commercial break is over.

    it’s over mitch.

  3. Yeah, I think this is because syndies aren’t (what used to be called) appointment programming. Syndication viewership is more casual. It’s not Tivo’d because it’s not cared about as much whether it’s seen or missed. And yes, flipping to another channel is simple enough.

  4. Or you could just pause it long enough to Fast fwd through the commercials.

  5. I agree with anonymous #3 in that the vast majority of syndicated programming, especially daytime, is mostly background noise, or chewing gum for the eyes, taking the ’stickiness’ quotient a step further.
