‘Battlestar’ to end after this season

The popular and wonderfully-written show Battlestar Galactica will end its run on Sci Fi after just four seasons. So is it because the show is dying in the ratings? Because the storylines are tapped out? Nope. “This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end,” said executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eik, explaining their decision. “Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms.” Novel concept, huh?

Adds Rob in comments: “While I hate to see one of the few shows I watch on TV end – and I watch Lost and ‘used to watch’ Jericho so that kinda frakkin’ sucks with their recent news – I like the fact that they’ll reach a conclusion on their terms and not strain to stretch the inevitable even longer and risk jumping the shark.”

  1. Maybe the producers could come with CSI: Battlestar to get the ratings up….

  2. I love it. The problem with so many shows is that they get stretched out too long, and that the audience knows there won’t be a payoff until the final season. With shows that have a premise (Prison Break, Lost, Twin Peaks, Star Trek: Voyager) that depends on a conclusion (finding Earth in this case) having a set end date just makes the show that much better.

No reason they can’t have sequels. There was talk about a spinoff that took place on a pre-war Caprica.

  3. Good. Third season made me just not care about the show anymore. I may or may not come back for the fourth.

  4. Not care? Not care? Z – you’re off flight patrol. I can’t have a pilot under my command I don’t trust.

    So Say We All.

  5. I’m really a Cylon.

  6. So you’re that fifth Cylon everyone’s been wondering about? :)

While I hate to see one of the few shows I watch on TV end – and I watch Lost and ‘used to watch’ Jericho so that kinda frakkin’ sucks with their recent news – I like the fact that they’ll reach a conclusion on their terms and not strain to stretch the inevitable even longer and risk jumping the shark.

Although destroying Pegasus, making Tyrol and Tigh listen to a wierd version of ‘All Along the Watchtower’ and not spacing Baltar came close to jumping the shark.

    Yes I’m a fanboy.

also rumors of a Sci-Fi original movie about Pegasus – adventures had on its own while the fleet was jumping its face off.

  8. This show was so great in its first two seasons that even an above average third was kind of disappointing. I think it’s because the larger storylines of getting to earth and explaining all the Cylon stuff seemed to be pushed to the wayside. So I’m happy season 4 will be the last because these larger plot arcs can finally get some resolution.

  9. Agreed about the “Watchtower” stuff. But Dylan being an alien would explain an awful lot, too.
