I think it's because the larger storylines of getting to earth and explaining all the Cylon stuff seemed to be pushed to the wayside. So I'm happy season 4 will be the last because these larger plot arcs can finally get some resolution. Although destroying Pegasus, making Tyrol and Tigh listen to a wierd version of 'All Along the Watchtower' and not spacing Baltar came close to jumping the shark. Yes I'm a fanboy. The problem with so many shows is that they get stretched out too long, and that the audience knows there won't be a payoff until the final season. With shows that have a premise (Prison Break, Lost, Twin Peaks, Star Trek: Voyager) that depends on a conclusion (finding Earth in this case) having a set end date just makes the show that much better. No reason they can't have sequels. There was talk about a spinoff that took place on a pre-war Caprica. I love it.
