GET LOST: The new podcast from Lost Remote, episode 1

Steve Safran June 8th, 2007

We hear podcasting is going to be big. So we thought we’d try it out. Cory and I met up in New York City and, of course, had to talk shop. In episode one, season one of “Get Lost,” I grill Cory on the previously undisclosed and possibly scandalous origins of Lost Remote. We also tackle the topic “Is Paris Hilton news?” We do this for the sole purpose of improving download numbers.

Can I find this on iTunes? Yes, I am that lazy…

  • 2. Safran  |  June 9th, 2007 at 4:43 am

We’re working on that. I figured I should wait until we had more than one show.

Hey guys, great podcast! I think you need a theme song though… Maybe one of your readers can write something up for you!

Oh, and how about a T-shirt that says “Get Lost!” Great tagline.

i think the little rascal’s theme song playing low in the background would be a great start.

  • 6. Tsmithrio  |  June 9th, 2007 at 7:05 am

    actually,

‘Love Links’ was one i had in mind for a to-remain-nameless web only that runs out of pittsburgh. but since they tend not to answer their email…

As I was about to say before my computer hiccuped…

What do you mean waiting? This is a Web 2.0 world, boys. You can wait for anything around here.

In fact, shouldn’t you be doing some kind of invited beta followed by a public beta?

    Congrats!

It reminded me a lot of the old Firesign Theater. With the right artificial stimulants I think this could be a big hit.

Can we get the RSS feed for this?

  • 13. Pat  |  June 9th, 2007 at 9:30 am

    Found it!

Go to Pod bean who host the file, type lost remote in the search engine, scroll down the page, and you will see the subsrcibe button for iTunes with obviously the RSS feed.

Shhh! Pat… I was hoping nobody would pick up on that! The LR Faithful are too damn smart…

The reason I didn’t put up that RSS feed is because I haven’t decided if this is the hosting I’m going to stick with. I went with something quick from my hotel room.

Still, if it works, I just may stick with the hosting I found.

It’s been a big few weeks at LR… first we got to see what Cory and Steve looked like.. now we hear there voices.

Now someone just needs to do do a little Countdown-esque Puppet Theater and put it all together.

  • 17. Don Day  |  June 9th, 2007 at 11:46 am

Ummm… “their” voices not “there” voices.

  • 18. Safran  |  June 9th, 2007 at 12:34 pm

Don: I imagine people are very disappointed on both accounts.

Steve - It had much the same feel as those mid-day things you used to do with NECN. You can tell that you’re well-practiced and the format could play as a regular feature, but I also see it as a way for you to further capitalize on all the conventions that you fellows attend.

As for whether Paris is news, as I believe Brian Williams blogged, there’s plenty of syndicated entertainment news programs that covered it wall-to-wall. Perhaps the second part of the story could’ve been wrapped in a two-tiered justice system angle, but that wasn’t the POV used by local television news and speaking from experience, it’s really nothing new.

And finally, I have to say that I generally agree with Cory’s explanation of how they do things at KING5. I mean, I doubt many people were logging-onto Seattle television for the latest in Paris news, they may have been going to CNN for a taste, but they shouldn’t have been going to local television and for them, a blurb would’ve probably sufficed. And of course, if anyone was interested beyond what the cablers had on their websites, the gossip sites pretty much had it covered. (So, sayeth the guy who loaded TMZ, a few times over the past couple of days)

Heck, General Pace resigned, the immigration bill got stalled in the Senate, stem-cell research was passed and the G8 was wrapping-up. Maybe and perhaps Paris got extra people to the news sites, but I’m glad that the major ones included “vegetables with their dessert”.

Your podcast is not working right now … such disappointment!!

  • 21. Safran  |  June 10th, 2007 at 11:19 am

I see that… the problem is with Podbean, the host. When I try to go to their site, I get “The connection has timed out: The server at podbean.com is taking too long to respond.”

So I pinged “www.podbean.com” and got 0 packets received and 100% packet loss. (Techie talk for “The number you have dialed is not responding.”)

I’d like to say we crashed them, but as their whole site is down, I don’t think that’s the case.

    Loving it, guys.

  • 23. Steve Safran  |  June 10th, 2007 at 3:44 pm

Podbean site is back up, Podcast is working again. Sorry about the inconvenience.

  • 24. Kerry  |  June 10th, 2007 at 4:29 pm

Try Libsyn, they’re a very reliable host with plenty of good features.

  • 25. Mindy McAdams  |  June 11th, 2007 at 7:47 am

Yeah, NOW it works! You could be as big as … Car Talk! Woot!

  • 26. Mike  |  June 11th, 2007 at 9:43 am

I like the show, but I’m not crazy about the name. People are going to think it’s about the TV show Lost. How about calling it “Live on Tape”? ;)
