ABCNews.com up 21 percent in last year

ABCNews.com says its traffic has grown 21 percent year-over-year — 10.2 unique visitors and 132.5 million page views in May, the first full month after launching a new design that emphasizes user participation. Also in that same month, ABCNews.com said user registrations jumped 328 percent from the previous month with users posted more than 70,000 comments. Press release below…
PRESS RELEASE — ABC News Digital saw 10.2 million unique visitors in May of 2007 and ranked in eighth place in the Top 20 of general news sites, according to the Nielsen NetRatings. Since ABCNEWS.com relaunched in May emphasizing community participation, the site saw 132.5 million page views, up 21% year-to-year, according to ABC’s measurements.
Members of the digital community put their own questions directly to newsmakers and to ABC News’ reporters from many outlets – web and cell phone videos, message boards, comments, and e-mails. In May, user-registrations on ABCNEWS.com jumped 328% from the previous month. ABCNEWS.com users posted more than 70,000 comments in May, including nearly 20,000 for a special series that debuted online and on “Nightline” called “Nightline Face Off,” featuring a debate on the existence of God. Diane Sawyer’s exclusive interview with TB patient Andrew Speaker and his wife Sarah created a robust online dialogue with more than 1,600 comments.

anybody who studies math knows that gains framed as percentages when you start low are always huge.
anybody who studies use of the media knows that any site that headlines percentage gains without making that point needs to go back to J and ethics school.
so how significant really are the gains in the latest pr blitz from the folks at abc?
by the way.

I believe they role up the ABC O&O site numbers in their totals…that’s probably where most of the growth came from.
