Today when I did my routine check of my favorite national sites I was surprised to see a newspaper site leading their page with video. On top of leading washingtonpost.com with video, it was shot by their own staff, and in a 16×9 player from Brightcove. I have screen grabs of the player after the jump.

Washington Post featured video at the top of their page, although it wasn’t an embedded player, so it linked you to their video player page to view it.

The video player itself was the full width of the site. The video did include a :15 second pre-roll ad.

The enlarge feature was impressive because of how large the video actually was. The video was about 865 pixels wide by 486 pixels tall. The quality suffered at the larger size, but was still clear enough to be acceptable to most users.
