I checked four stores this last weekend and they were sold out everywhere. Guess I have to wait for their next shipment, they told me it would come in by Tuesday.

According to apple.com/store. The iPhone is sold out at all stores, and expected ship time thru the store is 2-4 weeks

8:15 PM update… iPhones still completely on-shelf in all states. Which would be great for Apple, if not for that website, which evidentially anticipated a greater sales rush than they got. But still, kudos for actually making enough to meet the demand. (However big - or small - that may be.)

I’m on hold because I thought I was close to the end of my Verizon contract - but it turns out it does not run out until January.

The worst customer service experience I ever had was in 2001 with AT&T Broadband. As a result, I canceled everything AT&T, including AT&T Wireless. I’ll never go back. Verizon’s voice and data networks have never let me down and their customer service is amazing. I’d really like an iPhone, but there’s no way I’ll subscribe to anything AT&T ever again.

I tested the iPhone just for a little bit in the store yesterday before I did my 6pm live shot. I had no problems loading web pages on the safari browser. It was amazing. I have no doubt that downloading massive files would be slow… but who cares? Who’s using the phone to do that? Load it onto your iTunes at home- then move it to the phone.

I’m not getting one because I’m in the middle of a 2-year-contract with another provider… and I can’t justify the early term. fee to switch to AT&T. I bet there’s a lot of people like me who will switch as contracts expire.

By the way, I want to read an interview with those people who’ve been camped out for days to get an iPhone. How would you feel if you gave up 3 days of your life sleeping on the street to get an iPhone that there’s no shortage of?

good point.

i have cingular (now the new at&t) and although i’m told their service sucks, i’ve had no problem with it.

matter of fact, they gave me $30 off my bill last time i called and complained about service being out for an hour.

the infamous battery thing with the orig ipod actually worked well for us too. we always buy the extended warranty at best buy and when the battery took a snooze they dropped a brand new one on my son in less than 5 minutes…no questions. we now wish we kept the darn thing as they have made so many changes the originals are retro. i’d have coughed for another had i’d known.

i just like the way apple does business. they charge a premium for a reason… they can deliver.

did i ever mention that i’ve never once stepped into a walmart?

to recap: my son has an ipod, a shuffle or 3 (different versions), a mac book (the basic one, but school returns in a month or so, so i’m betting we move up). so $5 bucks for a phone sounds about right.

hopefully when the battery dies i’ll have enough sense to keep this one for the history books.

and he has a younger sister who just know is taking to apple.

Isn’t it also possible that people don’t want the iPhone, yet? I usually buy new gadgets, but this one isn’t something I’m going to buy. At first it was just because of the first gen version usually have problems, like the battery life. But once I started hearing the reviews on the AT&T data network, I realized my primary reason for wanting this device wasn’t something the phone could deliver on. So no Apple hype from me. I’m waiting.

much to apple and steve jobs’ credit…they actually produce enough product to satisfy demand.

the whole ‘frenzy’ marketing scheme works better with parents of 8 year old screaming boys and girls that MUST HAVE the power rangers or beanie baby under the xmas tree, OR ELSE, than it does with the kids when they are older and out with mom or dad’s plastic.

just ask my apple-laden son- they wouldn’t stand for that sort of marketing- not cool enough.

score another one for apple.
