Radio station flips formats, uses video to promote change
Michael Gay July 11th, 2007
You read that right. A radio station is changing formats! Ok, that’s not the news here, that’s common. But WCBS-FM is using video on their website to re-introduce the former Oldies DJs to the audience. In fact, video is the primary content on their temporary site. Nice work WCBS. Why is it that a radio station can think about using video to showcase their talent in a non-scripted manner, but TV stations want to over-produce all their online video? Respond in comments.

Good question - I think TV stations are used to heavily scripted segments with very little ad libbing and that carries over to the web - there are no rules at radio stations for video production - that’s why a lot of what they do is terrible, but you also get gems like these which really seem to hit a nerve and bring these guys to life. It’s also a really interesting way to introduce a format change - wonder if other stations will go this route. All of that being said - I’m also seeing more and more radio stations investing in online video - we need to be looking in our rear view mirrors - newspapers and radio stations are quickly catching us.

I find that cool, but I don’t think radio would rise up from the dead state it’s in, looks to mee it’s just too late.
Why, check this:
www.BitMeTV.org Largest TV piracy community on the internet today, this site is torrenting thousands of series, hundreds of episodes daily including numerous ABC,CBS,CC,Cartoon Network, Fox… It has irc support channel on irc.bitmetv.org, in channel bitmetv.help you can often find some of the people that run the site under pseudonims of Ibslice, SystemsGuy and Catfood. Because it is running from the law, it is invite only. Shed the light on cockroaches and help us fight the piracy.

#1 as a whole I think TV sites need to catch up with newspapers when it comes to online video.

TV sites are lagging behind everyone - they have to move past their current thinking and try to forget about on-air when programming online - it’s a totally different world - none of them get that.
