I thought that all of the cases were thrown out of court? The show was on last night and they were in NJ, never thought NJ could get any lower but Dateline proved me wrong, again.

Who cares that he killed himself. He was a perv anyways. Thats not the shows fault. I have no sympathy.

I think Dateline’s predator shows should air all the time, these are phenomenal and we need to take all these pedophile assholes off the streets. The lawsuit will be thrown out. Dateline wasn’t the one instant messaging little girls.
4. JoeMo | July 19th, 2007 at 12:47 pm
@Pay - I am not so sure the lawsuit will be thrown out, these “stings” or whatever you wish to call them weren’t legit, none of the required protocols were followed and that may leave Dateline as well as the police department involved liable. I would like to see perv’s and predators off the street as much as anyone else but I do not agree with the shot itself.
5. Robert | July 22nd, 2007 at 7:56 am
I don’t think the show’s main concern is keeping pedophiles off the street but one of keeping the show’s ratings high. I’ve watched a few times and most of the people caught may be pervs but i doubt they are the true ‘dangerous’ sexual predators. In many cases it seems the show borders on entrapment.
Also from what i understand, the prosecutor never went to the ‘pretend’ boys house….the police came to his house. I didn’t know that chatting online was a crime.
Shows like ‘to catch a predator’ and ‘cops’ are really pathetic shows that prey on the dregs of our society. But i will admit that a show like ‘America’s most wanted’ has some value because they are tackling the really dangerous criminal.
6. Viewer | July 23rd, 2007 at 7:05 am
I would like to see the show add a professional mental health expert in sexual addictions and the paraphilias who can provide snippets of information - pointing out parts of the chat that are grooming, etc. Other information might include stats on what happens to young girls and boys who are victimized in this way; what leads a person to seek sex with a child — what sorts of characteristics are common among these men (narcissism, impotence, small penises). Dateline has provided for us evidence that suggests we have a national pandemic. As Dateline helps us identify and define it, and aggressively prosecute these offenders, I would encourage Dateline to help us understand “why.”

As Robert Stated earlier, I do not thinking chatting online is a crime. I enjoy chatting online just as those other guys do. Get it?

This is so disgusting. Someone sets a person up, the person may be just sitting there, and gets the instant message, they are SEDUCED into thinking a “person” is writing to them. THEY DON’T BELEIVE the person is a kid, afterall, the web site says ADULTS only, and you have to sign a waiver to be on the site. THE poor person who gets the phoney IM just jives the sender, as they don’t believe a young girl would write that disgusting stuff, so THEY write stuff even more disgusting. WHAM…the cops come in and you’re guilty. NO GIRL, JUST YOUR STUPID PRIDE AND LIFE RUINED. Because you were not DOING anything..GUILTY OF MIND TRAVEL…sad…very sad.
NBC doesn’t care about people…they want a show that idiots believe. AND PEOPLE believe this. How many of your friends have ever been contacted by a pervert. NOT MANY and if they were, where were they on the computer.
KEEP CHILDREN OFF THESE SITES…what girl would ask these jerks to come over????NOT ANY GIRL I KNOW>
9. california | July 23rd, 2007 at 4:27 pm
Give me a damn break. I have personally NEVER chatted any one up at am Adult site. If I get an IM that is perverted.. I report it.
If you are on an adult site and are talking to someone that says they are 13-14-15… you shut the window.
You have to believe the age they say they are.
What the hell is wrong with you. These perverts, some of them, escalate their crimes to murder.
Take your dick out of your hands all you ped’s and realise that the party is over.. ROCK ON NBC. Catch every damn last one of them.
10. Chaos | July 23rd, 2007 at 10:28 pm
“THEY DON’T BELEIVE the person is a kid, afterall, the web site says ADULTS only”
Yeah, they believe adults go around claiming they are 13 al the time.
“you have to sign a waiver to be on the site”
You don’t even have a clue what sites these people are on much. YOu are just making up facts without knowing anything.
“they don’t believe a young girl would write that disgusting stuff”
You don’t seem to know much about about common practices on the internet or you are making things up again. Probably the latter.
“the cops come in and you’re guilty”
Um, they go through the judicial process.
“JUST YOUR STUPID PRIDE AND LIFE RUINED. Because you were not DOING anything.”
Um, showing up to meet 13 year olds for sex is “doing” something. Something illegal and harmful.
“GUILTY OF MIND TRAVEL…sad…very sad.”
All of these predators are convicted with crimes that require an overt act, not daydreaming.
“How many of your friends have ever been contacted by a pervert.”
There is no law against perverts contacting people. It is against the law to have sex with a minor or attempting too. The answer to your question is irrelevent at to whether the NBC show is improper anyway.
“…what girl would ask these jerks to come over????NOT ANY GIRL I KNOW>”
What child would ask to be molested by a relative, priest, older freind or a stranger (online or not) yet these incidents occur constantly every day. Underage children meet online predatory adults all over the nation every day. Your premise has no merit.
Your entire argument is based on made up facts, made up legal principles and a lack of knowledge about pretty much any you discussed.

I believe that we are all missing a very important point here. While I believe that pedophiles certainly should be jailed, maybe I even agree that everyone is better off now that he ended his own life. The fact remains that NBC definatly has some accountabillity here. They acted as judge, jury and in this case executioner. Think about it, could Conradt have recieved a fair trial after this was shown nation wide?
Another thing to take into consideration is does NBC have the right to go to someone’s house and make a public spectical of a situation that should truly be handled by the police, and the police only. Now had he actually went to the staged house then it’s a whole different ball game. NBC saw a chance to get their rating to soar with a high profile predator, and in my opinion they certainly crossed a line of ethics when they pursued him at his home. So yes Conradt deserves to be in jail… You might even get me to admit that we are all better off with him deceased, however NBC crossed a very fine line here and they do need to be held accountable.
12. Hey Man Nice SHOT | July 25th, 2007 at 8:32 pm
Ace,
I thought it was NBC’s job, being a part of the media, to inform the public of potentially dangerous individuals, especially those who hold a public office. Saying that They should not make a spectical of the situation and only the police should have been involved is crazy. It is the duty of the police to protect and serve the public. Police request the assistance of the public all the time to gain leads to help solve cases, and they use the media outlet to gain access to the public. Stating that NBC acted as executioner is basically saying that they shot Conradt, which is far from the case, as we all know he shot himself. Being a prosecuter he knew he screwed up, and he didn’t want to take responsiblity for his actions.
13. Lisa | July 26th, 2007 at 8:46 am
This is an appalling television show. I’m glad someone has the courage to sue and I really hope they win.
If preying on teens is so heinous, why does Dateline go to such trouble to create precisely those situations that are so hateful? For entertainment, ratings and money. That is what’s sick.
So catch the bad guys. Give them a fair trial. But to broadcast their humiliation before they’ve even been tried and convicted of a crime in the interest of titillating the prurient interests of TV viewers is in exceptionally bad taste and of dubious scruples.
Rock on Ms. Conradt. I hope you win. Get this smut off the airwaves.
P.S. Don’t try to post negative comments about the show on the NBC blog. It won’t get posted.

You people are sick!
Let’s protect these disgusting dregs of society, right? Get off it people. Let’s not humiliate them? Who are the ones that are humiliated, the pedophiles or the young girls and boys that are seduced. The language they use to these children is deplorable! Enough is enough.
It’s about time people start to wake up and smell the sickness.
Right on Dateline for having the guts to stick it them! Maybe more of them will end their lives.

Okay, first I want to make a correction on a comment that was made; the pervs that go into these chat rooms know darn good and well of the girls’/boys’ alleged ages. Why do you think the show’s called “To catch a predator”? Do you think that they spend everyday setting up just anybody? The age of the victim has to be confirmed while chatting or there would be no point to the set up. And do you actually think the cops would let this go on willingly if they for one minute thought Dateline was out of their place and this wasn’t ligit?
And as far as the suicide goes…The disgusting pig was the one who set himself up for a fall, & the disgusting pig pulled the trigger, & the disgusting pig is the ONLY one here to blame…he had it coming anyway.
17. Kay | July 27th, 2007 at 5:05 am
My husband and I watched that show and we had a HUGE problem with how Dateline did everything…especially arresting a few of the men who had changed their minds once they got there. WTF was their crime?
We have children and we want MOLESTERS off the street, most of those men didn’t appear violent and appeared uncomfortable, like they wouldn’t go through with it. The thought of some old guy looking sexually at either of our children turns my stomach BUT at the same time, are we now becoming a country that prosecutes and punishes for thought crimes? SCARY!!! And what is happening within a child’s life that causes them to seek out sex from strangers online?
Technically, this whole “age” thing is cultural. We only see it as *sick* for an adult to want sex with our definition of what constitutes being children because we define what age they are children up to. In other countries, *children* are being married when girls start their period and in many cases, they marry older men. Starting your period is a sign that you are a woman…in those cultures.
I’m not talking before puberty children here but after puberty. Just not so sure that we have the right to brand people *pervs* and lock them up for wanting sex with what very well appears to be a WILLING participant. Face it people, many young girls look, act and talk above their *age* and I’ll come right out and say it…damn good thing that the men I dated in their 20’s didn’t have Dateline to worry about when I was teen. And I knew exactly what I was doing, I wasn’t innocent by any means.

“My husband and I watched that show and we had a HUGE problem with how Dateline did everything…especially arresting a few of the men who had changed their minds once they got there. WTF was their crime?”
Their crime was going there to meet a CHILD for sex or things of that nature. They say they “changed their minds” to make them look like they actually had a concious. They have said things like, “I was coming to make sure they (the child) was “ok.” They were looking out for them? Uh, yea, ok!
“We have children and we want MOLESTERS off the street, most of those men didn’t appear violent and appeared uncomfortable, like they wouldn’t go through with it. The thought of some old guy looking sexually at either of our children turns my stomach BUT at the same time, are we now becoming a country that prosecutes and punishes for thought crimes? SCARY!!! It’s the grown men or women that are seeking sex from the children. Yea, I am sure children are curious about this stuff, but it IS still a crime. So what if these “men” looked uncomfortable…..if they are doing it now, they probably have done it before. And “like they wouldn’t go through with it” doesn’t make me feel anymore comfortable. They don’t have to be violent….they want sex and sexual favors from CHILDREN.
“Technically, this whole “age” thing is cultural. We only see it as *sick* for an adult to want sex with our definition of what constitutes being children because we define what age they are children up to. In other countries, *children* are being married when girls start their period and in many cases, they marry older men. Starting your period is a sign that you are a woman…in those cultures.”
Oh well, then pedophiles should go live in another country where it is legal to have sex with minors. Hmmm….because it’s not here.
“I’m not talking before puberty children here but after puberty. I agree, many young girls do lookm act, and talk older than what they really are…..that doesn’t give a grown man the right to molest them. I understand that some girls are willing, but I would think that it would take a responsible ADULT to not contact these “willing” children. Most children would’nt know what they were asking for. As adults, we are supposed to “set the bar” for children, especially our own. Because in your last statement, Kay, sounds like maybe you aren’t setting a very good example for your children. Set some standards, woman!!

Does anyone believe that a man planning to rob a bank but then changing his mind and never acting on it is guilty of a crime. No! That is all that conradt did he may have thought about or talked of doing sexual things to these “decoys” (not actual minors) but he never went through with it! Dateline had NO right to come to this man’s home. They only did it for the ratings!! I agree 110% what they are doing is great for the public. But I also agree that it should never be aired until the men have gone to trial. I also believe that it doesn’t matter how many of these men are taken off the streets the 13-14 girls and boys that are actually on these sites wanting older men/ women need to be prosecuted as well. As I know there are plenty of kids who do look for an older man/woman and when the situations comes to light the adult gets in trouble and the child might get grounded at home but they need to know as well that this is WRONG and should also be counseled and prosecuted otherwise these children are just going to looks for another adult! And maybe these childrens parents should be monitoring there childrens internet use!
20. Mika | July 27th, 2007 at 1:48 pm
whitnee, I agree with you about parents monitoring childrens interent use. It is up to the parents to protect their children, whether the children want it or not. I understand that parents cant keep up with their children 100% of the time, but it can sure as heck be tried! My husband and I have explained to our 12 year old daughter what can happen to her with the internet, or just out in everyday life. It’s a scary place out there, and we intend on drilling it into her.
21. Anonymous | July 27th, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Kay, has it ever crossed your mind that some if not most of these men that are caught have done this before? Most of them have actually admitted to Chris Hansen that it isn’t their first time doing something like this. Some of the men have even been on the show more than once.
I honestly do not care if these “men” are embarrassed. They need to be exposed for what they are. It doesn’t matter if any CHILD is willing it doesnt make it right. Here’s is an idea for them…..STOP TRYING TO HAVE SEX WITH CHILDREN, MORONS!
22. jessica | July 27th, 2007 at 11:27 pm
This comment is for #’s 17 & 18 up above(kay):
Wow…
I totally will agree to disagree with you. Why thy heck do you think they changed their mind, sherlock? …Uh…let me think here…uh…maybe because they were surrounded by cameras!, no that couldn’t be it…uh…Maybe because an ADULT was there to greet them INSTEAD OF A CHILD! Yeah, maybe that could be it, idk. They were there, & they meant business, & that’s all there was to it. Did you not notice that a majority of them brought along various “tools and such” to aid them? I mean c’mon!… and as far as your speel on “puberty” and girls acting and thinking alot older these days…yeah…well you know, there is a little thing called THE LAW and regardless of the girls maturity, the perv that’s after her is an adult who knows better. There are just as many girls/boys out there who ARE still innocent, believe it or not, as those who arn’t and they still need to be taken into consideration.
23. Big Momma | July 28th, 2007 at 9:29 pm
Chris Hanson/Dateline does their job. It is unfortunate that the sister of the D.A that committed suicide refuses to acknowledge that her sibling was a predator and probably for a while. People don’t acquire a sexual desire for kids overnight, male or female. Just like any other person who commits a crime there is always collateral damage…family, friends that will be affected. A drunk driver that decides to drink then drive and kill a pedestrian will hurt their family. However, the driver has made a choice. Instead of choosing the right thing, the person chooses wrong. The person who decides to kill does just that as well as a rapist and so on.
Let’s take this into perspective, if a man decides to have an affair and the girlfriend /wife catches him in the act, does not say to the man “Well, I know that you wouldn’t have done that under normal circumstances or if you weren’t solicited.” The man obviously is aware of his actions. A lot of deception is going on to set up rendezvous, buy gifts, pretend he doesn’t know who keeps calling and so on. Neither are they sympathetic if the man says I did it because of problems at home, or I was lonely, needed physical contact etc. Most times the affair goes undetected. In any event, people get hurt, are embarrassed and feel betrayed, sometimes feel as though it is their fault. That somehow they should have known or recognized the signs. Children that get molested/raped often feel it is their fault and very seldom tell adults because of the guilt, ridicule or chastisement they might receive by adults. Woman are often subjected to this as well.
What about the victims? How can you give back innocence or a life? What about the victims family? These pedophiles, some of them with children the same age, have these sexual tendencies already and are fully aware of them and have chosen to communicate, respond, and often go to meet these children. The D.A who was caught was not only soliciting a child, which by the way was a boy but he fully knew the law and probably prosecuted a few pedophiles during his career. If he was not interested in children then he would be in chat rooms where adults are and if IM’d by someone underage, the person would immediately say “you’re too young” report it, chastise, etc and move on. Dateline, as well as law enforcement in general do stings for every other crime (drugs, bail jumpers, warrants, prostitution), why not child predators? Some people are upset because of the types of individuals that are being apprehended. Many viewers are probably expecting sleazy, dirty, unemployed men but instead are finding that some have prominent positions in society. If these individuals were the less desirable people in society, there would be no complaints. The people who are complaining should not be hypocrites and realize that the laws are there for the rich, poor, famous, obscure, male, and female. No one should be above the law. If someone tried to hurt a child of mine or of someone I knew, it does not matter what lifestyle the person was from. The predator still must be punished. The D.A killed himself because he got caught, could not weasel out of it, and basically knew his career and credibility was over/damaged.
Furthermore, if for example I don’t like tomatoes, no amount of coaxing will make me eat it. However, if I have a predisposition for it, then I might be tempted to break my decision and eat some tomatoes. Those who are reading this just think about it, if a child tried to solicit you, would you do it out of weakness or because it is something you desire to do? You don’t just wake up one day and decide to do that. And you don’t “slip” into it either. If a man meets what he believes to be a woman and then finds out is actually a transvestite, he does not continue to talk, meet or sleep with the transvestite unless that is his desire/intention to do so.
The other thing citizens should also think about is the possibility that these pedophiles might elevate to abducting children, molesting, raping and killing children. Before Dateline came along, many kids were being raped and killed by people they met on the Internet. The same reason we have sexual offenders register so that communities can identify predators in their neighborhood, the same way Chris Hanson, and Perverted Justice are revealing the predators that are hiding under the cloak of prominence and status in their communities. Seemingly law-abiding fathers, husbands, boyfriends, doctors, lawyers, clergy, pillars of the community, while all the time underneath, they are nothing more than wolves in sheep clothing.
Kids who use explicit language have many ways to learn it- television shows, music videos, models, movie stars, books, magazines etc. that portray woman in general as sex objects and that use their sexuality to attract love & attention. A child that has a need for attention might be easy bait. Some girls may even believe it is expected of them to act that way. Most can imitate the language but rarely have the maturity to understand the repercussions. Many girls look older than they are but that is not what child predators look for, especially the kind that asks their bra size. Those predators prefer prepubescent girls. Adults should seek other Adults and not children regardless if they are propositioned. Please viewers do your research. And remember it happens to boys too.
Entrapment is defined as the police inducing an otherwise unwilling person to commit a crime. However, the predator contacts a person online (whether solicited or not), discovers that the person is under the legal age but continues to talk because that is the intention of the predator. To top it off many predators send explicit photos and travel many hours to meet with the child, often bringing gifts and other illegal things. Looks have nothing to do with it. There is someone for everyone. There are plenty of overweight, unattractive men and women that are not pedophiles. The individuals that exhibited limited mental capacities may need help but many knew that it was wrong.
Some people think that the DA did not do anything wrong and that perhaps NBC was judge, jury & executioner. However, the moment he started talking to an underage person in a sexual manner, he committed a crime. If I go online and solicit someone to kill my husband, I have committed a crime even if I don’t follow through and meet the gun for hire. It is called a conspiracy to commit an unlawful act. Dateline did not create the situation, it was already there. They just exposed it and made viewers that were oblivious to it, snap out of it and become aware (whether they want to or not). There are predators everywhere and some slip under the radar, just like D.A. Conradt. There are predators that actively travel to other countries (Thailand, it came on TV) to legally engage in sex or sexual acts with children (some 5 years old) because they know it is illegal here.
I think that Dateline are fully aware of the risks involved and I am sure they have a contingency plan in place but I often wonder how many of these predators that were caught are not actually serial killers etc? I think of how many serial killers were caught by simple things like parking tickets, traffic violations and I can only wonder.
24. victimnomore | July 30th, 2007 at 3:23 pm
“That is all that conradt did he may have thought about or talked of doing sexual things to these “decoys” (not actual minors) but he never went through with it! ”
First, he didn’t know that this was an adult he was conversing with, he thought it was a young teen boy.
Secondly, for those idiots out there that think just ‘talking’ on the internet like this is not against the law; YOU’RE WRONG. It is against the law to solicit minors for sex on the internet. The nano-second that an adult is made aware that the individual on the other end is claiming to be a minor, it should be over. PERIOD> It isn’t just against the law to go and physically go through with it! Also, if you have ever watched the NBC shows (To Catch A Predator) you will see that almost without fail, each of these sick bastards had already sent pictures of their genitals, videos of them masturbating for the ‘teen’ and brought liquor or drugs with them to these ‘meetings’. Just because the guy is cautious when he gets there and is hesitant to go in the house, doesn’t excuse the fact of intent and that he had already broken the law by the solicitation and photos.
If you are so blind as to how many of these people are out there looking for your child on the internet, it’s no wonder we have to have shows like this. The internet is the most dangerous place on earth for children, and yet, parents are too involved in their own social lives, sex lives and drama to spend actual time with their kid. Kids want someone to pay attention to them, love them, show them affection. If they don’t get it at home, they are the perfect mark for all the predators out there.
For every guy that shows up on the cameras of To Catch a Predator, there are a hundred who are meeting your kids and sexually abusing them. Wake up!
This lawsuit is another pathetic example of a woman who would rather blame someone else for her brother’s choices and consequences, than just accept that her brother was an evil man with evil intent towards a young boy. The only thing that kept him from his last conquest, was NBC….. cry me a river….

(For Laughs) These guys that get caught play it all wrong. When Chris walks out and suprises them and starts to make them feel like crap, I’m really waiting for someone to play it smart and say:
“Hey dude, I ain’t here for a 13 year old. I know the decay is over 18. I’ve seen your show. I know you guys always use decoys that are 18 or over. I’m here for her! She’s the one that promised to blow me. Come on, I drove 2 hours to get here. Get that bitch out here! I can’t help it if she likes to pretend to be 13. Hell, my wife is 40 and she likes to pretend she’s 13 too. That ain’t my problem. I’m also here because I’ve always wanted to be on TV, so I’ll take this opportunity to say ‘hi’ to all my friends watching. But Chris, you should really be ashamed of yourself, advertising situations on national TV that it’s OK for girls13 to talk that way and do that type of thing. Hell, I should have you arrested. Are there some cops around here anywhere? You’re the one advertising that you’ve got a 13 year old that wants to blow me. And you’re making money at it! I’ll do a citizens arrest.”
