YouTube enables custom players

Steve Safran July 20th, 2007

YouTube has come out with a feature that lets you customize your own player, and it’s a very cool advance. I created a quick playlist of videos from the New York City steampipe explosion and made the custom player below:

Check out how all the thumbnails popup when you mouse over the bottom of the screen. There are choices for colors and another skin that shows thumbnails to the right. They have built in other bits of functionality as well - so play with it and tell us what you think.

    very innovative.

all this as another week passes and the nbcu/news “youtube-killer” goes without a name.

Easy to set up and a convenient widget to group similar vids.

Of course, Civil Emergencies seems like a waste of the technology.
I’ve linked my name to something more appropriate, IMDO.

    Richard: genius.

I’m jealous I didn’t think of it first, what with trying to work “beer” into the introduction of every episode of GET LOST.

    I salute you.

are you the same ‘richard’ who last week made fun of beer drinking bicycle riding bears?

i salute any bear that can ride a bike after drinking… i wind up with road rash every time.

Did you see this one–shot from the 34th floor, just a block away? Very dramatic.

This one’s shot from the 12th floor, practically on top of the geyser. Amazing.

tdc, that was me, but my comments were nothing but praise for beer drinking bicycle riding bears.

They are the top of the food chain.

That’s how they got the bikes.

The only thing I don’t like about the custom player is how you can’t *really* resize the video. Apart from that, it’s really nifty!
