TiVo HD goes on sale for $300

Posted by Cory Bergman on July 23, 2007

TiVo has debuted a new high-definition DVR, and it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than the $799 Series 3. The $299 TiVo HD can record 20 hours in HD (180 in SD), can records two shows at once, but it’s not compatible with TiVoToGo. (Thanks, Eric!)

It *can* record two shows at a time. It has essentially the same functionality as the Series3, just for significantly less money.

Thanks Dave, Engadget was wrong and TiVo doesn’t explain that functionality anywhere I can find.

    neet hd device.

Maybe call this a series 2+, not a 3. Cable companies’ boxes are still “free,” but the TiVoToGo feature is what most will probably want.

  • ProvidenceTV

TivoToGo isn’t available for the original Series3 yet either.
The FAQ says TTG and MRV features for Series3 boxes (including the new TiVO HD) will be available in the future. As is usually the case with TiVo, they probably have yet to write the sotware to stream the video to your PC.

Now if they would just let me port my “lifetime” membership I would gladly take at least one.

More people use TIVO with DirecTV than anywhere else,
we call it DirecTIVO, yet this new device doesn’t apply to us. TIVO is really requesting that all it’s best customers just go away. OK, maybe now is the time to do just that.

Dan: where did you hear that more people use TiVo with DirecTV than anywhere else? I really doubt that that is true. On the other hand, the DirecTV HD DVR is so awful, I have been planning to switch back to TiVo for some time. The only obstacle was the price tag. This may change everything.
