SF power outages crash major sites

Cory Bergman July 24th, 2007

I was wondering why Craigslist was down. And Technorati, Yelp, LiveJournal and many more, thanks to six back-to-back power outages in the SOMA neighborhood of SF. Brutal.

One of the clear differences between broadcasters and
computer people. Backup power is paramount to
    any broadcast station. WHY?
Because if you are off the air you are out of business.
Computer people have never understood that concept.
“It’s down” is a very common couple of words.

Try to remember the last time you tuned to your
favorite radio station and it was not on the air.
    Automatic startup generators with automatic
power changeovers is why. And testing,
over and over… this is assuming we are talking about
real broadcast operations that understand the concept.

When the next attack comes and widespread power is
wiped out, do you think you will get information from cnn.com, google.com or from WLS, WLW, WCBS, KIRO, KNX ?
