ClickonDetroit streams home makeover live

Cory Bergman August 9th, 2007

WDIV’s ClickonDetroit.com is streaming a unique live event all day today. Detroit’s real estate market isn’t having the best of times, and “The Real Story on Real Estate” is a station initiative to demonstrate “how to dress your home to sell fast.” Users can watch the stream to see a home undergoing a makeover, and they can call or chat with “real estate experts” about mortgages, selling techniques and foreclosures.

And surprise, there’s no TV satellite or microwave truck at the house. The live feed is a powered by a miniDV camera, laptop (with Streambox) and a Sprint EVDO card at 350K upload speed. Sweet. (Thanks Greg for the heads up!)

    that’s cool.

detroit has never been on the cutting edge web-wise, but clickondetroit does seem to try things the other stations in town shy from… they also have a quasi-vj… tim pamplin, or something like that… you never once see the guy’s face though. you gotta figure he shoots his own stuff, does the voice and files it.

give him a set-up like they’re using here and he could really get in some places undetected.

The streambox encoder laptop will be shrunk to the size of of a Blackberry and will be a intergrated into the camera…late 2008!

Say good by to live trucks, say hello to live anywhere there is EVDO…which is every to 50 markets.

Anyone looking for a fleet of Frontlines??

Nice comments on the use of our Streambox device and combo of our site with the over-the-air broadcast.

I would mention how easy and flexible the Streambox device is to use. Something not discussed here, is how we see the slingbox device, as an inexpensive alternative, fitting into the web when it comes to streaming live cameras.

And yes, whomever mentioned that ENG field cameras will be capable of store and forward down the road, understands that most of SONY’s new broadcast technology is IP-addressable, as an option.

As for my comments on our NIGHTCAM & Mr. Pamplin, he is one of the most talented photographers I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with. You could put him in the middle of Antartica with some toothpicks, and he’d be giving me a call telling me he’d figured out how to get a live signal out.
