Non Wii-whiining news…

Steve Safran August 11th, 2007

Yeah, that last thread about the Wii was starting to grow hairs. Like you need to hear about my problems. (But thanks to the many of you who offered solutions and excellent conspiracy theories.) It’s the weekend, and we give the workers at One LR some downtime in the sweatshop. It’s not easy creating every single blog entry by hand, using only knitting needles and binary code, you know. Here are some headlines instead.

  • Google is shuttering its online video sales. No more buying “Survivor” from Sergey. The Register’s sub-head is less kind: “Stupid people out of luck.”
  • Vonage slips to #2 in VOIP. Comcast takes lead. Comcast haters unimpressed.
  • Social networks for dogs and cats. LOLcats r unmpressd.
  • My Apple stock: what the hell? Down 20 points after successful iPhone launch and introduction of new iMacs? LIN TV stock jumped 25% on Friday. I know nothing about the market.
  • NY Times Supreme Court reporter as arrogant about cameras camera shy as Supreme Court. Yeah - when C-SPAN shows up, things really get salacious.
  • Gannett announces a bunch of mobile-friendly local news sites. Gannett: bless you.

Tip for would-be AAPL holders: Buy on the announcement, sell on the release date.

      Re: C-SPAN

I don’t think the Times reporter was being arrogant at all. She seemed upset simply because she was invited to a private, off-the-cuff academic discussion rather than a nationally televised conference.

Besides: “I didn’t say that I wouldn’t do it,” Greenhouse told B&C from the Supreme Court press room Friday. “What I said to the organizer [Professor Amy Gadja] was that nobody had told me this was the nature of the event, and I didn’t feel it would be as candid and fruitful a conversation with the cameras rolling.”

      What’s arrogant about that?

hey, this never made the headlines anywhere, but since there is/was discussion on which domain suffix would win out over time (.com vs .tv) it was a surprise to see that godaddy is now offering the .tv extension for $14.99 vs what i recall was $34.99 not long ago.

      hmmmm.

Steve: give me a call and I think I can help you out. The distribution issues are geographic.
