‘Anchorwoman’ canceled already
Cory Bergman August 23rd, 2007
FIRST ON LOST REMOTE: A few Lost Remoters have tipped us with the news that Fox will not air the remainder of the Anchorwoman episodes — the decision coming down less than a day after it premiered with dismal ratings. We’re still waiting for official word, but here’s the Fox memo as sent to us below (thanks for the tip, all!).
UPDATE: Fox confirms it.

I like the exclamation mark after ‘TIL DEATH! in the second paragraph. Looks like “ANNE SCHWARZ, SCHEDULING” is pleased about the decision.

i didn’t watch, but considering how folks are moving their lives online i wouldn’t be surprised if a lowly 2.5 million viewers for a new series premiere doesn’t seem good going forward.
appointment tv is over.

A footnote to this show and the previous thread on news beauties. Did anyone notice how the pretty blond on-air talent with short hair (who never made one comments during the show) was previously a Texas beauty queen herself?
Lisa Spoone, who anchors the 6, 6:30 and 10pm newscast was crowned Miss Texas in 2002. She then when on to be be a PR spinster for Shell. She was hired at KYTX CBS 19 to ” to help start Eye @ 5.” That is the same show that talented Lauren got a start. Prior to arriving at Tyler, she worked at two previous news stations.
I wonder if any comments made by Lisa’s co-workers regarding beauty queens becoming newsies were perhaps too real for reality (especially comments made by Annalisa Petralia).

What’s the over/under on Cavemen lasting longer?
6. discreet_chaos | August 23rd, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Mike - How can they be cavemen, if they don’t live in a cave?

The show was a total put-on and will now become a web series. The site is too robust for them not to have anticipated migrating it from the get-go.

@fleetwood: I actually wondered if they’re going to burn the remaining episodes online. I don’t see why not - it seems to be the only place it generated buzz.

THANK goodness. This show is a disgrace.

All I know is that I was wanting the beauty queen to make an ass out of herself, and I think the show was headed in a direction to make her look good. If the enemy wins, that’s bad Fox programming, apparently.

Yeah! Glad its gone - but don’t think that Til Death is any better. It only survived because it was on after AI.

Forget DVDs - the entire season will be available on a floppy.

I saw the news this morning and I am sad. This was my favorite show of the summer. There was no other show with such a great cast. I am not being sarcastic.. I really thought the show was good. Sad to see it won’t continue.
Should I start a protest site and try and get a grass roots campaign to resurrect the show? Maybe if the show premiered in September, when all the college kids were back to school (or the young boys), it might have had a shot.

Thank god. I hadn’t seen any of the buzz but caught a few horribly painful moments of the show. My husband and I looked at each other, gagged, and changed the channel. Whoever approved this show was an idiot. She’s about as entertaining to watch as a dead ant. GAH. Good riddance.

Gerald, young boys have the internet for boobs these days. TV shows need actual content and a decent story line to make it off the ground if they are going to compete. Gone are the days of nothing but flesh pulling a show through. What an insult to journalism, and that’s saying something.

Hey, all I got to do is walk stormy the dog. I did not even get a chance to show my aweswom anchoring skillls. It is ashame, I liked Lauren Jones. My boss Dan Delgado looked liket the asshole he is, but overall I am still out for Annalisa. Go Razorbacks.

well i like the show for what it was. that being its call ACHORWOMAN so maybe lauren jones wasn’t all that and a bag of chips to you. this show was so close to the turth that it scared FOX.

I guess I was the 1 person who tuned in and enjoyed it. Really liked the catiness between the blond and the female staff at the news station. Enjoyed the developing relationship between the blond (whoever she is) and the camera-guy. Was looking forward to watching how things developed between the different people on the show.
Not exactly quality stuff, but fun to watch and better than a lot of other reality TV…

Well, I was waiting, and hoping that the Blonde Bimbo would prove to be worth more than her cup-size. I kinda liked the show and liked the way the cameraman was sort of schooling her in how stuff’s done in the field.
Remember the show with Sela Ward, i think it was…something about “Grace”…Saving Grace? Anyway, the new girlfriend of the ex-DH seemed the total ditz until she got going, and turned out to be the only one with any substance of all the characters on that show. It may have passed over some viewers’ heads that she was truly deep.
The producers of Anchorwoman were obviously forcing the show in a certain direction, I would have much rather seen Blondie triumph over snobs, Ivy Leaguers, and feminists. Even without paying her dues first.
FOX should save it for a mid season replacement when nobody turns out to watch one of their sure-fire “hits” of the Fall. I’d hate to be “Til Death”…the show they seem to drag out every time they need to fill in a spot caused by a Quick Death.

I was the one that pitched the Tiger Refuge story they did and was looking forward to seeing it. Unfortunately it was in the next to last episode and wasn’t aired. If they ever post the episodes, maybe it’ll get some play.
There was a great sequence where the tiger tried to spray her with scent and she takes off across the pasture in stilletto heels.
It was funny how everyone in the local news was being so catty about Lauren, when the dirty little secret is that there are more beauty queents, cheerleaders and ex-actresses out there pounding the pavement for local news than you can shake a stick at. At least Lauren was honest about it!
Her problem is that she may not have been awful enough for it to be good TV. I’ve done lots of stories with local news in the Tyler area and Lauren is one of only a handful of reporters that actually got the story right and didn’t screw up her facts. She really did a nice job on the story for us.
As a PR/development guy who has to raise 6.6 million bucks for my nonprofit, I’d like to see more reporters like Lauren. They tried to make her out to be stupid, but she was actually quite smart and like I said, she got the story right. I’ve learned who to call on the local stations if I want the story done right. I wish we had more of them that cared about the story and not just about their hair!
